Meine letzte Rezension Baldur's Gate 3: Astarion von T. Kingfisher
First of all, I see why Kingfisher was asked to write a book about him. She has the humor, the suspense and she knows how to write clever. Unfortunately, she didn't put in as much effort as was called for. The story was lacking drive, not to mention reason to exist, as the character is already established and no one who didn't play the game would be interested in reading. It didn't tell us anything new, and she didn't handle what we know well and with care. So, secondly to my initial preface, I don't see why this book had to be written in the first place apart from being a cash-grab. I strongly believe if Kingfisher had taken the time and worked with the person who wrote him for the game, it would have been a great deep dive. As it is however, every fan of his character is better off sticking to fanfiction.

    Evocation

This book had me in a chokehold! I don't know how Gibson did it, but she managed to grip me with her compelling and unique characters, so authentic and different. They fit each other like puzzle pieces and I was rooting for Moira and David the entire time, especially the latter holds a special place in my heart. Rhys is a little hard to like, but I couldn't help but have big emotions™ anyway when it came to David and Rhys; I thrived during their bantering. The world is easy to grasp, the english very purple prose (which I like a lot), the story itself is rather slow, but that was fine by me as I was most interested in how their relationship unravels. Also, did I mention it's about occultism and possessions? That's right up my alley!

    A Marvellous Light

All That's Left in the World

... are butterflies and giggles! I've enjoyed this book thoroughly. I loved these characters a lot, they are endearing, wholesome, funny, queer and felt realistic. The story itself is very fast paced, with short chapters and changing POVs. There wasn't a big main goal (except, well, surviving), rather many little peeks and lots of surprises! I was never bored and I've felt warm and fuzzy whenever these two interacted with one another. Ten more please, thank you!

    A House with Good Bones

Unexpected, humorous, likable and frighteningly good. Just another splendid horror story by Kingfisher that captivates you and won't let you out of their thorny grasp. It has the authors handwriting written all over it: charismatic characters, witty humor and bone-chilling twists. I loved every bit about it and read it more or less in one go. Sure, the reader knew (kind of) what was happening (or accepted it sooner) than Samantha, the protagonist, but it was still endearing to follow her train of thoughts. No matter your theories, the ending will still be totally different — and that's something I love about Kingfisher's stories. They are new and out of the box. Sure, there are cliches, but they need to be in every good horror story. Definitely recommended if you enjoy haunted houses and unpleasant grandmothers!

    The Voice Upstairs

A thrilling and stunningly haunting novel, about two childhood friends falling in love and unravelling the mystery of the Summerfield Manor. I was absolutely captivated from the beginning. I was so fond of Wilhelmina and Edison that I rooted for them non-stop, but I stayed for the secrets of the Family, slowly getting revealed. There were so many plot twist (but it still made sense!), one of which made me angry at first, but it got explained later on, relieving me to the fullest. It is beautifully written and the story is easy to follow. I loved the setting and the unique characters. I really liked the two protagonists, their thoughts understandable, their love adorable. You'll hold your breath till the last page and won't see all the twists coming!

Vicious - Das Böse in uns
