The Enchanted Greenhouse

After I finished The Spellshop I immediately ordered The Enchanted Greenhouse, and I’m very glad I did. Both books play in the same universe centered around the crescent empire and for those of you who have read the spellshop already will recognize Terlu Pernas name, she’s the creator of our most beloved supporting character Caz! But for those who are new to Sarah Beth Durst, Terlu Perna is a condemned ex librarian of the Allysium library, who was turned into a wooden statue as a punishment for creating Caz, a sentient spider plant. So, when she wakes in the snow at the edge of an unknown island, and finds out through the golden, black-haired hermit gardener that she is supposed to save the magical greenhouses full of unexplainable wonders from failing, her second chance at life is tied to a task and a very shy and hostile gardener named Yarrow. Together they try to solve the mystery behind why the greenhouses are failing. In comparison to The Spellshop, I cared greatly about the plot. It is still incredibly comfy and especially the isolation was a point of comfort for me but through the vivid flowery descriptions and ridiculously cute, enchanted animal, I needed Terlu Perna to find the solution to the many problems this little Island had. Beautiful, truly a book you hold dear to your heart.

Since I've loved 'The Spellshop', I had high hopes for the second book of the series and I was not disappointed. I really liked the mentions of characters from 'The Spellshop', but I also enjoyed getting to know the protagonists Terlu and Yarrow. I could deeply empathize with Yarrow, because I would also be overwhelmed by masses of talking flowers and the whole family coming over unannounced. His personality matched perfectly with Terlu's friendly and patient demeanour.  'The Enchanted Greenhouse' has it all: Well-written characters, an interesting plot, and a cozy atmosphere. 

Oh wow. Sarah Beth Durst has done it again. I'd recommend reading this wonderfully dreamy and atmospheric story in late fall or winter, as this plays on a (very) snowy island in wintertime, but I still enjoyed it very very much in a over 30° heatwave. This book has it all: mouth watering food, a very talkative sentient rose and a grumpy, but cute gardener. And greenhouses. Many greenhouses. I loved the fact that this is a second installment, but they play in completely different areas of the world, so you can read both books seperately and in any order you'd like. Just read it. Pls. <3

Sarah Beth Durst has done it again. When I finished reading „The Spellshop", I was sad to be done with this universe. It was a really cozy fantasy book, with great characters and even better worldbuilding, not better than Caz of course ^^ , but it was fantastic. But when I heard that the author was going to write another story in the same world, not on the same island, but in the same universe, I was immediately hooked. Especially when I heard that the main protagonist would be Terlu, the librarian who created Caz and was turned into a statue as punishment for practicing magic and sorcery, even though she is not a sorceress. After Terlu was turned into a wooden statue, she found herself locked in darkness, with no sense of time, but after some time had passed, she woke up on an island with an enchanted greenhouse, with so many rooms that it would take weeks to explore them all. But unfortunately, some of the many, many rooms have been destroyed and Yarrow, the only remaining gardener on the island, is determined to find a solution to this problem and maybe Terlu is the key to it all. The two not only have to work together but also learn to trust each other as they are complete opposites in character. „The Enchanted Greenhouse" was just as cozy and wonderful as „The Spellshop". I devoured the book within a day. I couldn't put it down. And if you like a book with wonderful protagonists, talking plants and hopeful dreams as much as I do, you've come to the right place!!!

This is a cozy and heartwarming read. We get to stay in the universe which Sarah Beth Durst has created with her novel The Spell Shop. We follow the fate of the librarian who used illegal magic to create a sentient plant. Her journey takes her to a nearly deserted island, where she finds refuge in a magic greenhouse and a grumpy gardener. Sarah Beth Durst writes cozy fantasy like no other, it really feels like drinking tea on a cold day and you're cuddled under a warm blanket.
