"There was power in that. In caring deeply and feeling everything."
A haunting, YA dark academia fantasy that I really enjoyed. I loved the eerie, mysterious, and genuinely creepy atmosphere, especially during the Decennials. I couldn't get enough of the deadly trials, dangerous rivalries, and all the mysteries. I also really loved the characters and their dynamics, especially August and Wren, omg <33 The worldbuilding was a little bit flat but I'm sure the second part will dive deeper into that. The plot twist was so good and the ending left me so excited for what's next. A very good start to the series! -

A Dark Delight
If you love clever schemes, layered characters, and stories where every decision carries weight, this is one I would wholeheartedly recommend- especially to fans of Six of Crows. The intricate plotting, morally grey characters, and constant sense of tension make every chapter feel like there is another secret waiting to be uncovered. It captures the thrill of watching brilliant minds navigate impossible situations while exploring the bonds of trust, loyalty, and found family that form along the way. -

Could've been so much more.
Immortal Consequences does a good job at being what it is, which is a Young Adult ensemble fantasy. With a trope as overused as deadly trials, a book like this has to thrive on its characters. The main six and the dynamics between them were interesting enough to carry the book to the end and I honestly loved reading them interact with each other. However I found this book a little predictable and in multiple ways, it failed to surprise me or I felt like I knew what turn a lot of actions were gonna take. The setting was intriguing tho, a school in purgatory that essentially only offers graduation to one student every 10 years is certainly unique, so I wish it had been elaborated on more. We do get glimpses into their daily lives and into the school's structure, but they also remain just glimpses. Like I said it does a good job at being what it is, but sadly doesn't try for much more and thats why it's a 4 or maybe even only a 3.5 to me.
