Rezension

"Sue Lynn Tan has written a breathtaking debut novel that will sweep readers away to the moon and back. I can't remember the last time a book surprised and delighted me as much as this one. Epic, romantic, and enthralling from start to finish. I love this book."

Stephanie Garber, #1 NYT bestselling author of the Caraval series

'Tan sweeps the reader away on an epic and romantic adventure, rendered in lovely prose and driven by a strong-willed protagonist, whose quest for _justice is as gripping as it is exquisite.'

Samantha Shannon, bestselling author of The Priory of the Orange Tree

"This vivid, unputdownable debut effortlessly whisks us into the celestial realms of Chinese high fantasy. Tan magnificently conjures the romantic yet dangerous dazzle of this immortal world, but never loses track of the shining human heart of her tale. A captivating treat for lovers of Chinese fantasy dramas and newcomers alike."

Shelley Parker-Chan, bestselling author of She Who Became the Sun

"A lush, dreamy gem of a novel."

Shannon Chakraborty, bestselling author of The City of Brass

"A stirring romantic fantasy set in a richly realised world inspired by Chinese mythology. I loved it!"

Zen Cho, Bestselling author of Black Water Sister

"Strikingly evocative, tense, and heartfelt, Daughter of the Moon Goddess ... floats you into the Celestial Kingdom, introduces you to monsters both literal and figurative, and leaves you dreaming of dragons."

Andrea Stewart, author of The Bone Shard Daughter

"With all the beauty and heartbreak of a Chinese fantasy drama, Daughter of the Moon Goddess is an enchanting joy from start to finish."

Tasha Suri, author of The Jasmine Throne

Beautiful and wondrous

Bewertung am 31.05.2026

Bewertungsnummer: 3154702

Bewertet: Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

I have to say, at first I was dissapointed how naive and childish the story/perspective of the MC was written. But then, I was drawn in by the story nonetheless. Emotions and surroundings are truly beautifully described. It really spoke to my inner child. Yes, I do think the plot contains little realism but mind you it is a fantasy book. If you need an enthralling escape from reality and heal your inner child, then this is a book I would recommend.

Beautiful and hard to put down

Bewertung am 16.06.2025

Bewertungsnummer: 2517108

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

A fantasy story inspired by Chinese mythology, with a lovely female heroine. The setting is beautiful, above the mortal realm, you find the magical Celestial kingdom with other realms of immortals and the moon, where young Xingyin grows up peacefully with her loving mother and a doting servant. Until one day, when Xingyin has to flee and suddenly has to look after herself, and so many things happen, good and bad, and Xingyin grows into an amazing, strong, and clever warrior. It's like a rollercoaster ride, up and down and breathtakingly captivating.

Enthusing take on the Chinese Myth of the Moon Goddess

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

Even though the cover drew me to this book, the story did not disappoint. The author took the well-known myth about the Chinese moon goddess and wrote a beautiful story about the daughter that could have been. Xingyin, said daughter, was hidden from the Celestial Majesties, because her mother might've become immortal but much to the disapproval of the Empress.

Let your mind ascend to the clouds

Bewertet: eBook (ePUB)

I fell in love with Tan's writing inspired by Chinese mythology, and her devotion to the magical description of the sceneries. Not only did she give us an brave and headstrong protagonist, but also a plot that never fails to test Xingyin's bravery through challenges and intrigues. It made me feel a bunch of emotions, stretching from happiness to devestation. It's the right choice for everyone seeking fantasy including violent sceneries of war just as much as the difficulties of a love triangle.
