Thornbird

Thornbird is a book I had no expectations for or knew that much before reading it. It was a recommendation by a friend, and she said it was scary (she cannot stand anything slightly creepy at all) so I thought it could be a fun read. And it absolutely was! I loved the mixture of mystery with typical high school drama. Ryan was an interesting character as well which made reading really easy. I loved how I couldn't really predict what was happening. Normally I know quite fast what's going to happen and I thought Everett would be the guy everything revolves around. I was wrong and I love being wrong about predicting the plot. I have a thing for the bad boys in books, so Chase was my favourite from the start. The plot twists weren't the most mind-blowing ones, but they led me through all the emotions and what else is there to want from a good story? Also, I loved how true crime was depicted. I like listening to true crime music and podcasts and I hate when there's people ignoring that they are actually talking about real lives. I think this is a genre which needs so much empathy and, in this book, it is shown how obsessive behaviour towards the ones involved can really mess them up. I hope the author will write another YA thriller soon!

A gripping YA thriller I couldn't put down! The author keeps the tension very high. I was literally flowing through the pages wanting to unravel all the secrets. The story is dark, mysterious, and gripping, and the little love story added some relief of the tension which I really liked. Also, the twists are very good and surprising. I totally recommend it to any fan of YA thrillers.

I was more than pleasantly surprised by this ya thriller of Elle Kennedy. It had me hooked from the start and I just couldn‘t put it down. It was well written, very gripping and had a few twists I didn‘t see coming. Thoroughly enjoyed it & can definitely recommend.

I really enjoyed this book. I especially liked the high school setting and the fact that it was a different kind of mystery. It's not directly about a serial killer or murder, but about the daughter of a convicted serial killer. Ryan returns to her hometown under a false identity, where her father is a major topic of conversation, especially since he's about to be executed. The victims' bodies were never found. And although Ryan wants nothing to do with it, her cousin persuades her to search for clues, because there's a reward. The plot twists were unpredictable, and in addition to all the suspense, there's also a little love story.

I read everything Elle Kennedy writes so I had to read her first thriller too. And i must say I really liked it. We get the typical writing of her which makes it really easy to follow the book. Though it's a thriller, I would say it's a bit of a slowburn in this departement. Yes it's good but it only gets really thrilling in the end. But I liked that it wasn't the typical thriller you get and I would love to have more thrillers by Elle Kennedy!
