My roman empire
I heard from this book all about social media; it was described as very depressing, and I wanted to look into it, not aware Dazai would turn into my favourite author ever. Yes, this book is depressing; it's not a fun story, it's an autobiography. He describes his own depressing life. You follow him from his childhood to his adulthood in Japan a long time ago. He had his struggles and by all means was not really a good man. But at some points it hit me very deep, and at some points I felt really understood. Not a good thing in this case. Read it! It's worth it, but be prepared to feel very sad and dull after you finish it. -

strange deep waters
I loved this book, not because it was relatable, but because it was not. It is facinating to see the world through someones’ eyes who dosn’t get the meaning of it or even understands that life is supposed to have meaning. -

I'm no longer human
After finishing this book, I just sat there, staring at my wall. Not a particularly beautiful wall. Just a beautiful book that tore me to pieces and at the same time, made me whole again. If that makes any sense? Yozo, our protagonist, is dark, miserable and just suffering a lot, to the point where he doesn't want to feel anything any longer. The lonliness he feels becomes nearly unbearable, not only for him, but also for me as a reader. At moments, it feels kind of scary, to connect so deeply with a character. I guess sometimes, you just have to reach your dark places, to remind you, that you are still alive. If you do decide to pick it up, be prepared for a lot of sadness . Maybe an existential crisis. But that's okay. -

Massives Seufzen, soghaftes Lesen
Die meisten Bücher, die mich in letzter Zeit besonders beeindruckt haben, verbindet ein Leitmotiv: die Protagonisten fühlen sich wie Außerirdische, der Gesellschaft nicht zugehörig, wie Schwindler, die sich unter die Menschen gemogelt haben – stets die „Normalen“ analysierend, darum bemüht, eine unauffällige Maske zur Schau zu tragen. (Siehe auch: „Convenience Store Woman“) „No Longer Human“ ist zeitlos. Die Konflikte einer Generation verschmelzen sich mit denen des Individuums. Ich weiß schon gar nicht mehr, was was ist. Ich weiß überhaupt nichts mehr. Nur, dass ich mich nach dem Lesen selten so viel deprimierter gefühlt habe als davor. Es war trotzdem soghaft, wenn auch keine Unterhaltung als solche, mehr massives Seufzen, Traurigkeit, Grübeln.
