Meine letzte Rezension I am cringe, but I am free von Verena Bogner
Unsere Protagonistin nimmt uns mit beim Erwachsenwerden, auf dem Weg sich selbst zu finden und den cringe zu akzeptieren. Klingt cringe? Ist aber so! Ich glaube jede*r hatte schon Momente beim Erwachsenwerden (oder immer noch..) in denen man denkt man müsste cool sein oder sich bei jedem Stolpern fragt, wie viele das jetzt gesehen haben. Dabei fühlt es sich doch so gut an, einfach man selbst zu sein und sich nicht darum zu kümmern, was andere denken. Ein Buch, das sich wie eine Umarmung anfühlt, da man sich unweigerlich selbst in seine Jugend und frühen 20er zurückversetzt. Nostalgisch und einfach herrlich nahbar.

    I Who Have Never Known Men

    Wow. This hit really hard. This tiny book made me feel more emotions than I have felt ever before. The story starts with 39 women and one young girl (our protagonist) in an underground bunker, being imprisoned in a cage. Nobody knows how they got there and the protagonist has never seen the 'real' world before. If there is such thing as the real world, there is huge room for speculation. It is part eerie dystopia, part a deeply emotional novel about loneliness, hope and how to cope with the few things you've got. The sense of imminent disaster is palpable and sometimes I had to put it down, because it was so painstakingly sad. One of the best books, I've ever read.

    Nemesis' Töchter

    Wie kann ein Buch so akkurat sein? Tara-Louise Wittwer beleuchtet in ihrem neuen Buch die Thematik Female Rage und geht 3000 Jahre zurück, um die Ursprünge dessen ans Licht zu bringen. Man kann sagen, ich habe nicht nur einiges gelernt, sondern auch vieles direkt in die Tat umgesetzt, denn es entfacht einen *rage modus* in mir! Aber es ist so wichtig und ich lege es jedem ans Herzen, sich mit dem Thema auseinanderzusetzen. ,,Nemesis' Töchter'' zeigt uns, wie wichtig es ist, für sich selbst einzustehen, laut zu sein und sich nicht für die männlichen Wesen der Gesellschaft zu verbiegen. Der Blick in die Vergangenheit zeigt deutlich (keine Sorge alles faktenbasiert) wie viel Aufarbeitung noch geleistet werden muss.

    11/10 stars! This is my favorite King so far and it has been extraordinary. 11/22/63 blends historical fiction, romance and time travel and I've never been more intrigued. You just know it's good, when you start to annoy everybody in your social sphere with the story and your thoughts about it... Just like Jake Epping I fell into a rabbit hole. Well, I didn't time-travel to the 1960's but I did a lot of research myself, as the whole Kennedy topic is kind of a guilty pleasure of mine. I couldn't stop thinking about going back in time and how one little thing can obviously kick off a whole chain of events in the future/present. As always I absolutely loved the easter eggs thrown in there, so watch out for a visit to Derry!

    It's been a while, since a book hit this hart and it still can't seem to let go. It consumed me throughout every single one of the thousand pages and I'm kind of sad that it ended? Surprised myself there, because I never thought, I actually liked it. And now I loved it. Crazy world. Speaking of crazy worlds, Sen Lin Yu created a brillant dark fantasy about war, sacrifice, and love, that's quite unbreakable (let's not forget, there are some heavy themes so please do read the trigger warning). First and foremost the story starts with Helena, once a promising alchemist, now a prisoner of war. Due to her inexplicable memory loss, she doesn't remember being a healer in the war or anything else for that matter, leading to her imprisonment. I just loved how the author let the readers into her memories, unveiling bit by bit how she ended up there. This book truly is a masterpiece and the 1000 pages of tears and crashouts (on my part) were absolutely worth it!

    I dived into this book without any expectations and this is the best strategy. ''The Book Eaters'' is a dark fantasy novel, drawing together a gothic horror narrative and on a much deeper side, themes of loss, patriarchy and control. Flipping between the past and the present, we get to know Devon, born and raised as a book eater, to be made a birthing machine and traded between ''husbands'', because men tell her to do so. Not gonna happen! Devon is on her own quest to break free from these bonds and safe her son in the process. A book to be devoured and the most fascinating worldbuilding ever!

    We Used to Live Here

    This book really is like quicksand, it doesn't let go and will definitely haunt you even after you finished it. My sleep-deprived eyes and overall sleepless nights can vouch for that. I dare say, this was one of the best horror reads this year, even though at first, for me it started quite slow. I actually liked this slowly creeping sensation, that got even creepier the more you read. Imagine, moving in to this big, old house with your partner. Suddenly this (slightly) weird family knocks on your door, the man telling you he used to live there and if they may take a look around. Obviously my answer would have been YOU MAY NOT. The story unravels from there until you (as well as our main character) get to the point of having no clue what's real anymore and we all feel kind of delulu. So in conclusion, the real horror lies in socialising with people... Can't imagine not being able to get strangers out of my house, the audacity!

    A Dark and Secret Magic

    Die perfekte cozy fantasy für den Herbst! Wobei man nicht nur eine cute love story bekommt, sondern auch eine Menge düstere Geheimnisse und viel Spannung. Bringt also alles mit! Mir hat nur der Pumpkin Spice Latte dazu gefehlt dann wäre es eine 10/10 reading experience... selbst Schuld. Wir müssen natürlich nicht darüber reden, wie wunderschön diese Ausgabe ist. Ein Buch, das man jeden Herbst aufs Neue lesen möchte!

    After finishing Alchemised (and Alchemised finishing me), I desperately needed a cozy, witchy fantasy. I probably say it a lot, but again, this is the perfect autumnal read. More than that, it's about finding yourself and more importantly, knowing your own worth. In the story we follow Belle, part time bookseller (huge selling point for me) and part time witch. But when her 30th birthday brings a summon from her coven, she has to proof herself and test her worthiness in a trial (which could end with her, losing her magical abilities). So now she needs all the help she can get and, of course, an infuriatingly handsome watchman.

    Another brillant piece of writing, but it's John Boyne, I'm not surprised. I am surprised however, how much an impact it left on me. It's a short but still a deeply moving and political read, a story of betrayal but also of renewal.

    Bringer of Dust

    The first book in the Talents Trilogy destroyed me. This sequel pretty much did the same. I can't stress it enough, this is my favorite historical fantasy of all time. It's dark, and twisted and gruesome and we get to know this world even more, which makes me very happy. Miro drew me back into this story effortlessly and definitely doesn't hold back on the horror, the children face yet again. Nevertheless, it's so much more than that, as it is heartwarming seeing them form their friendships and how they risk their lives to protect each other. It brings me so much joy to be back in this world of talents and Miro has a fantastic way of bringing each of these late 1800s settings alive.
