Rezension

"All That's Left in the World is unfailingly riveting and hopeful. A timely exploration of survival, trauma, and love stitched together with sharp wit and bone-deep emotion. Erik J. Brown is an invigorating voice to watch out for." - Julian Winters, award-winning author of Running With Lions

"A haunting story that's sure to delight (and terrify). " - Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

"It's difficult to say Andrew and Jamie are lucky, as each lost everyone they knew, but love like this-a small ember carefully tended until it erupts into a sustaining flame-is rare even when there are millions of people around you." - Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books

"In allowing the protagonists moments of laughter and warmth amid so much loss, he gets to the terrifying heart of societal collapse: the loneliness and guilt of outliving friends and family-and the resulting hope in connection." - Publishers Weekly

"Brown has somehow achieved a book that is romantic, hilarious, warm-hearted, hopeful, and page-turningly thrilling all at once. I was hooked from beginning to end." - Dahlia Adler, author of Cool for the Summer

"Tense, exciting, sometimes heartbreaking and always romantic, All That's Left in the World explores what it means to hold onto hope and humanity when the worst case scenario becomes reality. With characters you'll adore, and a fast-paced, mysterious plot that keeps you turning the pages as fast as you can devour them, this book is not to be missed." - Sophie Gonzales, author of Only Mostly Devastated

"A timeless love story that could not be more appropriate for this moment, All That's Left in the World is a thrilling, heartfelt, and beautifully written debut." - Tom Ryan, Lambda Award winning author of I HOPE YOU'RE LISTENING

"Survival is core to the queer experience, and in All That's Left In the World, Brown takes that to apocalyptic extremes with the story of Andrew and Jamie. This is quintessentially brave, dangerous-in-the-best-way queer storytelling!"-- - Adam Sass, award-winning author of Surrender Your Sons

    Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

    Jahres-Highlight

5+/5 Sterne Jahres-Highlight

    Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

The book was great, more than great even.

The thought of a love story taking place in a post apocalyptic world was captivating, so I ordered it and I´m really happy I did so. First off the overall layout of the book; I think the idea of having split perspectives trough out the book was really fitting, especially in situation where the emotions of one character matters more. This also gave an inside on the character development, which btw was stunning. They grew so much and I feel in love with them. The overall story was unexpecting which fit the overall theme in the book. There were hearth-warming and hearth- breaking moments. Overall the book was one of the best I have read so far and in many moments I would question what I would do if I were to be in their shoes. Hope this helps :) (and excuse my bad gramma, English isn´t my mother language)

    Brilliant queer Dystopy

The writing, the setting, the character development - this book was freaking amazing! "All that's left in the world" is my first queer dystopian book and it was pure perfection! I wish I could erase my memory of this book to experience it like the very fist time all over again. READ IT! (And just look at the covers... they are gorgeous!)

Love begins when the world ends

What if a deadly virus had wiped out most of the world's population? This book tells the story of Jamie and Andrew, who try to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. Both of them are very likeable protagonists and even though they have different personalities, they get along instantly. Well, they don't have a choice, since they don't really meet people their age anymore, now that most of the population is gone. Jamie and Andrew make the best out of it. The ending leaves some things open, but is still hopeful.

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

“You have to trust people sometimes. The good in this world might surprise you.”

What more do you need than a dystopian, post-apocalyptic queer love story which follows two teens called Andrew and Jamie who are adoringly chaotic? Nothing... exactly! Erik J. Brown has a subtle graphic writing style which creates enough for our mind to wonder off into this books world, feeling how the world has shifted into a place of isolation, corruption and restriction. Even if their journey is laced with difficulties and many interesting characters, Andrew and Jamie stick side by side talking about movies, the old world and who gets to eat the good cans of food. I enjoyed this read very much and I am convinced that we would survive a post apocalyptic world with Andrew and Jamie.

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

At the End of the World, Love Still Remains

In a post-apocalyptic world, in which most of mankind has been killed by the flu, Andrew and Jamie are brought together by fate when they most need each other. To find safe haven, they embark on a journey in a world that was left for nature to reclaim, full of dangers of those who survived the pandemic. "All That's Left in the World" is a gripping and unique read, having the reader glued to the pages, full of suspense about both, the story and the slow-burning flame between Andrew and Jamie. Erik J. Brown debuts with a spectacular novel, showing off an impressive skill for world-building that makes it captivating to follow the characters on their journey. As a lover of post-apocalyptic stories, I really enjoyed reading "All That's Left in the World", because it truly is about all that is left, which—for me—is the bond Andrew and Jamie share. This teen novel is perfect for anyone who likes a good slow-burn, a unique setting, and characters you grow to care for with every turn of a page.

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

I devoured this book in one day. My new favourite!

We are in postapocalyptic America, after a pandemic has erased the vast majority of the human population. Following their "meet cute" - in which they both think the other one wants to kill them - we join Andrew and Jamie on a journey through TEOTWAWKI ('The End Of the World As We Know It') where they not only have to learn and adapt to the societal and environmental changes, but also grapple with their personal aspirations and what it means to be human after all. From the beginning, Brown pulled me in with his two immensely charming protagonists! Written in alternating first person perspective, what stands out is that their individual personalities are captured so well you can tell whose chapter it is without checking the headline. And I just LOVE the humour - got me cackling aloud on a regular basis. As soon as I'd finished the first book I immediately bought the sequel - And I will keep reading everything Brown releases!

    All that's left of me...

... are butterflies and giggles! I've enjoyed this book thoroughly. I loved these characters a lot, they are endearing, wholesome, funny, queer and felt realistic. The story itself is very fast paced, with short chapters and changing POVs. There wasn't a big main goal (except, well, surviving), rather many little peeks and lots of surprises! I was never bored and I've felt warm and fuzzy whenever these two interacted with one another. Ten more please, thank you!
