    A dark and atmospheric read!

This story left me breathless. I could not stop reading and after a day of flying through the book I found myself with a new favourite. The gorgeous cover drew me in and the characters and incredible story progression soon took hold of me. ‘House of Hollow’ tackles a range of important topics throughout the story. In its midst the reader finds what the power and dangers of beauty really mean. Something that also positively surprised me was that very casually the author mentioned in the beginning of the book that two of the three sisters are LGBT+. It’s not the focus of the story nor would it make a difference if all three of them were straight, but it’s just so great to read a story with queer main characters where their sexuality is not the topic of the whole book and is just another fact about them. Be warned that the book gets very dark in the end and has a surprising revelation waiting for you.

    Amazing mystery

I would recommend it for sure! An amazing book, a mystery that got you hooked, a there page turner. It's a well written story, that has you guessing what's coming next all the time. Plot twist was not unpredictable, but still impressive. It came all at the end together, everything finally made sense.

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

mystery with a touch of horror... perfect

House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland is a dark, atmospheric YA thriller that combines mystery and fantasy with a touch of horror. The story follows Iris Hollow, a girl searching for her two missing sisters, both of whom disappeared under strange circumstances and returned with no memory of what happened. The writing is haunting and vivid, creating a world that feels both dreamlike and unsettling. Iris is a compelling protagonist—smart, sarcastic, and deeply protective of her family, even as she uncovers all the chilling truths about them. With a fast-paced plot, eerie settings, and a gripping sense of suspense, House of Hollow kept me hooked until the final, shocking twist.

    Beautifully Haunted

"I was ten years old the first time I realised I was strange." This is the perfect combination of a fantasy fairytale mixed with horror. The novel follows three sisters who disappeared as children only to return slightly changed. When one of the sisters vanishes, the other two, Iris and Vivi, are left to follow clues that get progressingly more bizzare. When someone from their past starts following them, they need to uncover their past and what happened to them as children if they want to save their future. This book is beautifully written with just enough unnerving things to make you second guess everything. A read perfect for the colder months of the year and especially for the time around halloween. You might just get haunted yourselves.

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

    Fairytale gone dark!!

Lured in by its beautiful yet unsettling cover, I started "House of Hollow" as my first novel by Krystal Sutherland and could not let go of the story until I found out what has happened to Iris, Grey and Vivi. As children, all three sisters vanished from one moment to the next only to return with a huge memory loss one month later on the streets of Edinburgh. In spite of this dramatic trauma, Iris tries to live a normal teenage life until Grey disappears for the second time. As the disappearances seem to be closely linked, Iris fights hard to shed some light on what happened to all of them all those years ago in order to save Grey for good. Sutherland's talent in turning an altogether fairytale-like setting into something sinister, dark and dangerous hits truly home. I had so much fun in reading this story as it is remarkably fast-paced, tossing the reader right into the plot and providing one cliff-hanger after another. Even though Iris is only seventeen at the time of narration, this novel is not to be considered a young adult story as there is plenty to creep one out while reading, which makes the story all the more appealing and worthwhile. Give me more of this author!
