Mistborn: The Final Empire

Everyone was right, I did love this! I've been meaning to get into Brandon Sandersons works for ages but the sheer amount of books this guy wrote really intimidated me. So after some research on where to start, I finally did it and boy, I am sat. Mistborn is pretty fastpaced High Fantasy that includes all my favorite things such as morally questionable gang leaders, the found-family-trope and an attempt to overthrow the government made out to be a heist. The characters grew ton me super fast and I loved the almost sci-fi-esque worldbuilding and magic system. Even though the plot does appeal to some more common tropes the story still felt very unique and I was highly invested in the politics of it all. Another thing I really enjoyed here were the discussions of philosophy and religion, so there really never was adull moment. The ending simultaneously emotionally wrecked me while also leaving me very satisfied how everything was neatly wrapped up, especially considering this is the first book in a trilogy. But Mr Brandon Sanderson when I catch you, we will have to speak some words. That was not okay! If you also want to start your Cosmere-journey I agree with the common (and Brandon Sandersons own) take that this is a perfect starting point. If you don't like this book, you can just stop here and not even have to finish the trilogy and still have a pretty good wrapped up ending! If you do however love this, theres some good news: The trilogy is not over yet and there is even more to be discovered in the Cosmere!

A great point of entry into Sanderson's "Cosmere". With a strong female protagonist and a plot that contains countless surprising twists, there's always another secret to uncover in this intriguing, action-packed story. The magic system is unlike anything else I've ever read before, so it truly is a breath of fresh air in that regard. Between political intrigue, battle scenes and a bit of romance (and first and foremost, many secrets!), there's something for everyone in this stunning series!

This story has everything I'm looking for in a book: flawed but loveable characters with great camaraderie and banter, and a complex plot that will only get more intricate as the series wears on. The magic system is by far my favorite one I've ever read; it's incredibly scientific yet cinematic and easy to understand and makes for some vivid and fast-paced fight scenes. But beneath this action-packed story of heists, rebellion, politics, and a bit of romance, this story is at its heart about freedom from oppression and the fact that all sentient beings are worthy of respect and being treated with dignity. There were watery eyes and some sniffles, feelings of pride and moments of excitement, some losses that shook me, and some triumphs that gave me hope again.

What a great book! I started the book with a lot of expectations and it even exceeded those! I have never read anything by Brandon Sanderson before and read a guide to start his books. This one was recommended as the best start and I can only support that! Mistborn truly is the best start to the huge "Cosmere"-Universe with amazing characters and a story line that was so great I had to read it in one sitting! Vin and Kelsier make an amazing and leathal duo and all the other characters feel so real that I almost forgot that I was just reading and, sadly, not in the story too!

For some reason I'm always intimidated by Sanderson's books, but I really shouldn't be because I always love them. The Final Empire has a really cool magic system, interesting characters and a compelling plot. Seriously, the magic system is so cool. I read this big book in just a few days and can't wait to read the next one!
