    Buch (Taschenbuch)

perfect just like all her other works

I just finished reading this book and my expectations were definitely met. It is different from The Roots Of Chaos series in writing style (and the other elements too, of course, but I’ve seen this criticized a lot), but that is because the narrator is the 19 year old protagonist (who is very sassy and I love her for it), which makes it very fitting. Since I first picked it up, I could not put the book down. I was hooked from start to finish and I‘m sad that it’s over now. The pace was perfect, the characters and character dynamics interesting and realistic, the plot very exciting and intriguing and the world building immaculate - every new piece of information was revealed at the perfect time. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

I loved this book and will make it my personality!

First of all, I would like to say thank you for the review copy, which was provided to me by the publisher and Tandem Collective. This fact does not in any way affect my personal opinion of this book. This post contains advertising and the rights for the book belong to the publisher. Of course, this is only my personal opinion of the book and just because I give this rating to the book doesn’t mean, that everyone will have that opinion. Holy shit, I loved this book! This was so awesome!! So far, I’ve only read „The Priory of the Orange Tree“ by that author and it’s a chunk. I always wanted to read The Bone Season but wasn’t so sure because of different reasons (ongoing series, huge commitment, long books etc.), but to be honest: I am glad that I finally read it. It took me a second to understand the world and get a feeling for it, but other than that I have no complaints. The writing style hooked me, and I fell in love with the characters and their dynamics. It also does not lack action, and I am so excited to see how everything will continue in Book 2. I could rave for hours, but I want you to experience it for yourself Conclusion I loved this book and will make it my personality!

    Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

    Spannend

    Worldbuilding and some more Worldbuilding

The first part of the series does take a while to get going. I had to convince myself to keep going at some point (started reading in the bookcircle and picked the book up again after 8 months), but it was totally worth it. The start does drag a bit but it makes sense later on, since the world and clairvoyance + its history are so complicated that you would be completely lost without explanation. I love the main character and how this book doesnt lean on romance, but instead establishes the main character on its own, which is a rarity in this genre. The Idea behind the series is brilliant and i havent read anything like it before. It might feel a bit boring at the start but i promise its worth it to keep reading as the Series gets better and better with each book.

    reliving your 2014 dystopian era

Following a recommendation of a friend I read this one without reading the plot - trust me that's the best way to do it, because you can't explain this book in just a few sentences! Yes it does have dystopian vibes, yes it has magic, it has a romance subplot, it was conflicted characters, political schemes and secrets, another race that are a mix of aliens and vampires and so on and on and on. It's seriously so good, I think this going to become a favourite series!!!

    Dystopian fantasy at its best!

The Bone Season is the first book in a 5 book series (the sixth one is in the making) and whenever someone asks me for a recommendation, I name this series sooner or later. It is action-packed, full of dystopian and fantastical vibes and political rebellion. The world-building is phenomenal, and I just couldn't stop reading. Samantha Shannon has got me addiccted to her writing for sure.

    Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

    Pure dystopian nostalgia!

All I loved about “Divergent” and “Hunger Games” as a teen, “The Bone Season” delivered. I first read the book in 2015—the original version, not the author’s preferred text—but both have their unique charms and aren’t all too different at the end of the day. Even though it’s technically a loose retelling of the legend of Pandora, it also gives major Hades/Persephone vibes. In a dystopian London that reminds us of the “Sherlock Holmes” era, Page Mahoney is the prodigé of ruthless magician Jaxon Hall, the cunning leader of The Seven Seals, one of the criminal underground’s gangs. Her life turns upside down when she gets kidnapped by the government in the so-called “Bone Season” though and discovers the real reason behind the ban of clairvoyance. The paranormal race of the Rephaim lives in hiding in the abandoned town of Oxford and receives magicians to feast upon and use them as protection against a bloodthirsty species who followed them from their dimension to ours. In Oxford, Page meets the Rephaim Warden who’s planning his own resistance against his people and needs her help to get it. But first, they both must learn to trust each other, despite their differences.  “The Bone Season” isn’t the best choice for readers who prefer their books fast paced. If you like detailed worlds and a slow build up as well as a slow-burn romance, however (the series will be seven books long) I’d recommend trying it out. Page is an incomparable protagonist and the villains in this story are just as compelling as its heroine.

    Buch (Gebundene Ausgabe)

“Knowledge is dangerous. Once you know something, you can't get rid of it. You have to carry it. Always.”

What a book! It does need some time to get in because of this huge worldbuilding, but it is worth it. As soon as you understand the words, you just fly through the text. Samantha Shannon has a good writing style, and behind her words are often more than you think. Sometimes it's foreshadowing and sometimes just poetic. The characters were phenomenal! They had depth and did things that seemed logical for the character. I can't wait to read book two.
