A worthy Finale - when the sequel actually delivers
I always find it difficult when the first book is so incredibly good – opening the second one with trembling hands, hoping it won't disappoint. And here, much to my great joy, it did not. The second book is in no way inferior to the first and follows Gideon and Rune through forests, battles, and a turbulent train journey into the sequel and also to the end of their journey. If you liked the first one, you will definitely like the second one as well. Lots of action, gigantic plot twists, and of course a little bit of heartbreak! I hope this book blows your socks off just as much as it did mine. -

The ending chase...
Rune and Gideon hate each other—one the hunter, the other the witch. With a war all but brewing; humans against witches, and standing at the head of the rebellion a very-not-dead Cresseida, things get complicated really fast... I loved the toe-curling tension, the banter, the characters. This book is a stunning conclusion to the duology and a very fun and adoring read. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves themselves a YA romantasy with a present plot and awesome characters! -

~ This review contains spoilers! ~ What! A! Great! Finale!!! I can only repeat: why didn't I start this series much earlier? Even though I liked The Crimson Moth even better, The Rebel Witch, the final volume, is only a tiny bit behind it. Nevertheless, the book is a clear 5-star read for me! It's exciting, nerve-wracking, full of emotion and everything the fantasy romance heart desires and probably needs. After Gideon handed Rune over to the witch hunters and she was sentenced to execution, it was Cressida of all people, the cruel witch queen who was believed to be dead, who saved Rune from death. Cressida wants the witches to return to power and secretly bring her sisters back from the dead, but for this she needs the lost and believed dead Roseblood sister. Rune and Gideon have to work together to defeat Cressida and this is proving to be a very difficult task. Not only do they have to put their twist aside, they also have to learn to trust each other and look straight into the eye of their feelings for each other, which rage like a storm inside them. And last but not least, they have to form an alliance between witches and witch hunters, because alone the endeavor is doomed to failure. Gripping! Captivating! And fantastic! -

How do I rate this book???
As a disclaimer at the beginning. I massively fell in love with Gideon. As in full on butterflies. I had to take some time away from this book to even attempt at rating it and not just giving it five stars for that reason alone. Now, for that reason, it does earn five stars. The dynamic between him and Rune continues from book one, truly draws you in. The settings and plot points are well chosen to give them good room to play off of. We've got some jealousy, we've got forced proximity, we've got characters torn between different feelings and desires... However, with some space between me finishing the book and now, I do have to subtract a star. I don't like some of the choices Rune makes towards the end. In my opinion, she is not given enough time and room to properly develop into these problems for them to actually make sense. I really dislike a trope that is used towards the end. And I have some issues with the way the story is resolved, overall. Given all that, I do highly recommend this book (and this series as a whole). You might not even dislike the end as I do, and even with that caveat, I still love this book a lot (maybe a bit too much?).
