One Golden Summer

My thoughts: I absolutely loved "Every Summer After", but "One Golden Summer" definitely topped that. The characters here are just utterly endearing. Alice, in particular, is very selfless. She always looks after everyone else’s needs first, and even then, she doesn’t put herself first. Sometimes that’s a bit of a shame, but it just shows that when she loves someone, she does so with all her heart. Charlie is also absolutely lovely. In the first book, I found him a bit erratic, but here his background becomes clearer. At first, I was a bit suspicious of the way he behaved towards Alice, but he’s so endearing and has always had only her best interests at heart. Even at the end, when I briefly thought, ‘Please, just talk to each other’, I also realised that this was the best solution for him. It’s also definitely striking that both Alice and Charlie are characters with immense potential for personal growth, and they make the most of this potential to become the best versions of themselves. I’ve really grown to love them. Reading a Carley Fortune book in the summer is just perfect, but this one was really something special. I was so captivated by the setting and the writing style that at times it felt as though I was right there with the two of them by the lake in Barry’s Bay. And it really couldn’t be any more perfect! For me, this book was definitely a highlight. Not only are the characters wonderful, but the story is also full of ups and downs and is just so incredibly beautiful. I’ll be recommending this book forever. --- Meine Meinung: Ich habe "Every summer after" schon absolut geliebt, aber "One golden summer" hat das noch einmal übertroffen. Die Charaktere sind hier einfach nur absolut liebenswert. Gerade Alice ist sehr selbstlos. Sie schaut erst was alle anderen brauchen und selbst danach achtet sie weniger zuerst auf sich. Manchmal ist das etwas schade, aber das zeigt einfach nur, dass wenn sie jemanden liebt, dann mit ihrem ganzen Herzen. Charlie ist auch mega süß. Im ersten Teil habe ich ihn als etwas sprunghaft empfunden, aber hier wird dieser Hintergrund klarer. Anfangs war ich etwas misstrauisch darüber, wie er sich Alice gegenüber verhalten hat, aber er ist so liebenswert und hat bei jedem Gedanken nur ihr Wohl im Blick gehabt. Selbst am Ende, wo ich mir kurz dachte: Bitte redet doch einfach miteinander, habe ich aber auch verstanden, dass das für ihn die beste Lösung war. Dabei fällt definitiv auch auf, dass sowohl Alice, als auch Charlie, Charaktere sind, die ein extremes Selbstentwicklungspotential haben und dieses Potential nutzen und damit die beste Version ihrer selbst werden. Ich habe sie wirklich so liebgewonnen. Ein Carley Fortune Buch im Sommer zu lesen, ist einfach perfekt, aber hierbei war es auch echt etwas besonderes. Vom Setting und vom Schreibstil war ich so gefesselt, dass es mir manchmal so vorkam, als wäre ich mit den beiden dort am See in Barry's Bay. Und perfekter kann es wirklich auch nicht sein! Für mich war das Buch definitiv ein Highlight. Nicht nur sind die Charaktere wundervoll, auch die Geschichte ist voller Höhen und Tiefen und so unfassbar schön. Dieses Buch werde ich für immer empfehlen können.

This is a 5 star read. Well written, nice storyline, nice characters. I love Charlie ;) I haven't read the Sam/Percy book before. It might have been the better experience, but you don't need it to get this book.

Große Liebe für dieses Buch! wunderschöne Geschichte, toller Schreibstil, man kann gar nicht aufhören zu lesen!! Die Charaktere sind so wundervoll und man fühlt direkt mit ihnen, kann mit lachen und mit weinen!

“One golden summer” is a wonderful love story that leaves you dreaming about the main guy but would never happen in real life. If you - like me - liked “every summer after” then you will probably also like this one. Charlie is just as charming as his brother Sam but with a touch of bad boy and together with Alice they make a perfect match. The smirk didn’t leave my face for almost all of the book. If you are into RomComs then you will probably like this one too.

I read this book in one day because it was that good. The summer vibes were immaculate and I adoooored Charlie and Alice! Highly recommend reading this if you're looking for a great summer read.
