Meine letzte RezensionThe Black Locomotivevon Rian Hughes
During a secret dig beneath London "Anomaly 36" is discovered. A gigantic metallic object that can only be artificial... but somehow it is embedded in undisturbed earth from the neolithic age.
Like Rian Hughes' first novel "XX" the reader encounters more than a normal story. We are shown magazine covers, art installations, maps and more. Everything is linked either to the plot or our characters. The exploration of urban space is especially fascinating and puts London into the spotlight. Next to the mixed media element, "The Black Locomotive" offers classified government projects, a secret society, steam engines, futuristic tech and the suspenseful investigation of Anomaly 36.
I loved the eerie mood around the anomaly and the widely different reaction our characters had to its discovery. The character voices were distinct and I enjoyed spending time in their perspectives. The novel kept me intrigued from the first to the last sentence and I'm highly anticipating Rian Hughes' next work.
