Meine letzte Rezension The Infinite Sadness of Small Appliances von Glenn Dixon
If you’re looking to read something cozy and whimsical that devolves into dystopian sci-fi, then you should definitely pick up this book! Without giving too much away, the story explores what could happen if we handed too much control of our lives over to technology. Beware, this book also deals with the grief of losing a loved one.

    There Is No Antimemetics Division

I actively avoid horror because I hate being scared, but then this book showed up with a premise that was far too intriguing to pass up. From the start, it pushed me out of my comfort zone, challenging me both conceptually and structurally. The narrative is deliberately disjointed, filled with sudden time jumps and missing memories that make following the story feel like chasing breadcrumbs, which only made it more satisfying once things began to come together. The ideas themselves are unique and mind-bending. At times, they made my head hurt, but mostly they just made the book impossible to put down. Every chapter introduced something new and unexpected. As for the horror elements, I was surprised to find that I actually appreciated how creepy it was at times. It might be too early to say for sure, but this book is already carving out a place among my standout reads of the year. December can’t come soon enough to see if that holds!

    Project Hail Mary

Follow along Ryland Grace (Middle-School Science Teacher turned Humanity’s Last Hope) on a last-chance mission in space to save humanity. If he fails, there are no do-overs. The stakes couldn’t be higher! The amount of science in this book might be overwhelming at first, but the writing makes you believe you understand everything that’s going on. Most of the time, I felt like I was one of Grace’s students myself! If you liked The Martian (also by Weir), then I can guarantee you will like this book as well!

This is How You Lose the Time War

A sapphic sci-fi romance novel about two enemy agents, known only as Red and Blue, who find a way to exchange secret letters across time and space. The story centers more on their romantic relationship than on building out an elaborate world around them, which I found to be a refreshing approach for a sci-fi narrative. The ending is as heart-wrenching as it is beautiful, making this one of the most romantic books I have ever read.

    The Tea Dragon Society

This was a very short but fun read! It’s perfect if you’re looking for something sweet and wholesome! The main highlight for me was the artwork. I LOVE the color choices, and there are so many cute little details, I could stare at the pages for hours!

A Darker Shade of Magic. Collector's Edition

Four Londons exist parallel to each other. One alive with magic, one desperate for it, one that has let it fade, and one consumed by it. Kell Maresh is an Antari from Red London, a magician with the unique ability to travel between the realms. Adopted by the royal family, he is the official ambassador between the four Londons. Unofficially, he is a smuggler. After an exchange doesn’t work out like it should, Kell has to hide in one of the Londons, where he meets Delilah Bard, a girl without magic, who more or less forces him on an adventure. An amazing read with perfect pacing, I couldn’t put it down! A must-read for fantasy lovers!

Cult of the Lamb Vol. 1: The First Verse

Having recently played the game, I was overjoyed to discover there was a graphic novel to accompany it! The story follows Lamb on a quest for vengeance after being sacrificed by the Bishops of the Old Faith and subsequently resurrected by He Who Waits. Along the way, Lamb gathers followers for his cult while working to save Darkwood from the evils of the Bishops. The artwork (by Troy Little) really impressed me with this one! The bold and bright colors, and the cutesy, exaggerated features are given an edge by the creepy and the violent elements of the story. It’s balanced perfectly! The story itself matches the overall plot of the game. Yet, where the game jumps headfirst into action, the graphic novel goes about things slower, which I found is the perfect approach to an adaptation like this. While it's only a small change from the game's pacing, it makes the graphic novel feel much more immersive rather than simply rehashing the same story beat for beat. Overall, this is a fantastic graphic novel. I'd happily recommend it even to readers who haven't played the game!

    Shadow and Bone

I’ve been meaning to read this book for years, and now that I’ve finally come around to it, I’m regretting not picking it up sooner! It took me no time at all to get invested in the story, which I attribute to Leigh Bardugo’s intriguing characters and unique worldbuilding. Shadow and Bone tells the story of Alina Starkov, a war orphan who grew up thinking she was born as an ordinary human. At the age of sixteen, she became a cartographer for the First Army. It’s not until her regiment is set to cross the monster-infested Shadow Fold that she awakens a dormant magical ability that might just be the key to destroying the Fold. I can’t wait to read the second book!

    Haikyu!! Sammelbox 1
