Through Jeff's sarcastic and self-disapproving narration, the novel explores his struggle with depression, identity, and coming to terms with his sexuality. Michael Ford blends humor and heartbreak seamlessly, highligting the complexity of mental health without playing it down. I really flew through the pages and even though it is a book dealing with highly emotional topics, I finished the book without feeling completely empty inside.

Fifteen-year-old Jeff wakes up in a psychiatric ward after a failed suicide attempt. Told through Jeff’s daily therapy sessions and reflections during his 45-day stay, the book gradually reveals the reasons behind his actions and his journey toward understanding himself and finding hope again. With a good mixture of humor and heartbreak this book makes a difficult topic like metal health, identity, friendship, and self-acceptance (including an exploration of sexuality) very accesible for everyone. A raw, honest, and surprisingly witty book, showing that healing often starts with honesty and connection.

Eine witzige Erzählung über einen Jungen, der in eine psychatrische Klinik eingewiesen wird, nachdem er sich das Leben nehmen wollte. Der Autor behandelt das Thema Suizid und psychische Erkrankungen auf eine lustige und sarkastische Art und Weise, weswegen das Buch angenehm zu lesen ist. Trotz dessen verliert es nicht die Ernsthaftigkeit, die dem Thema zu Grunde liegt.
