Malibu Rising

I've had my struggles with Taylor Jenkins Reid. I didn't like Seven Husbands (Sorry!), and Daisy Jones wasn't for me on the first try either, but Malibu Rising, for some reason, finally got me though. Maybe it's cause I love celebrity mess. Because really, this is just that plus some top notch summer vibes, which I also love (and needed), so I basically hit the jackpot with this one. I also got really attached to Nina (My favorite eldest daughter), so that carried me through a lot of the book, but by no means am I trying to say that you will be bored. There is really no time for that. The first few chapters might seem chill, but once the ball gets to rolling it just doesn't stop. Get ready to be messy, absurd, emotional, hopeful and every thing all at once.

The atmosphere is mesmerizing! Sun-soaked beaches, salty hair, surfers, a huge party. But it's not just fun, it's emotional, dramatic, and chaotic. Each character had their own story which added so much depth, and it made me feel connected to every single one of them. Also, the dynamics of this family were so intriguing with all their secrets and messiness. And that time period! Loved the nostalgia but also the raw emotions of the era. At times, I was literally tearing up. It's the perfect mix of family love, betrayal, and redemption that I couldn’t get enough of. A drama-filled story that made me feel everything. It’s messy, it’s beautiful, and it’s my highlight of the summer.

Reid also cleverly connects this novel to her larger universe—fans of her work will appreciate the appearance of familiar names like Mick Riva (and later, Carrie Soto). It’s a subtle but satisfying nod to her interconnected storytelling. Malibu Rising is a bittersweet, compelling story about identity, resilience, and the choice to rise above your past. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to Reid’s novels, this one will leave you hooked.

- and Malibu Rising proves it once again... The setting: Malibu, gorgeous beaches and the house of one of the biggest popstars in the Taylor Jenkins Reid universe. Sounds too good to be true? It is.. Because his family, despite living in this cinematic and sunny area, struggles to keep morale up. Malibu Rising is a wonderfully thrilling and emotional read. The build-up and the story arc are perfect, the characters felt real and everything blend together so well... While reading, a movie plays in your head and it just keeps you going. Taylor Jenkins Reid is jutst THAT good a writer. While there were many interesting characters in this story, I think it was a bit too much. Since not everyone was crucial to the actual plot it felt a bit overwhelming and unnecessary. (so actually 4.5 stars) (Cameo of Carrie Soto!)

Taylor Jenkins Reid did it again with this fantastic book! The characters are very lovely and their story is truly emotional. Reid's writing style is incredible, which makes reading this book even more perfect. I cannot recommend it enough!
