I love the book

Bewertung am 25.10.2025

Bewertungsnummer: 2635919

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

I already read the book like three times, some say they don't like the style of how it's written, but that's exactly why I love it. The story of Osamu Dazai is one I can relate too (also a reason I like it), mostly because I also strtuggle with not undestanding why I exist and depression, so it's like reading about someone with the same problems. It's playing in a time where misogyni was much more normalised, so some readers may not like that. I personally see it as just a part of the time where Osamu lived. To the book itself, it's in a melancholic tone and as someone whos native language isn't english, it's more advanced. You follow his story, from childhood 'till his death. There're many timeskips, so some times it's hard to follow. He tells about his struggles and how he doesn't undestands people, but still is popular (for some time). He tries to mask it (his problems to understand people), but many think he's weird. I personally can totally recommed the book. It's very intresting to read, you completly go into the life of someone else, who struggles with being a human and not knowing how to act around others. And having a addiction because of his depression. All around many aspects and layers to read into.

Beautifully painful read

One of (if not the) most relatable books I've ever read. I have never felt more understood in my life and the book manager to put many experiences and feelings into words that I couldn't have dreamt of expressing myself. I can only recommend it, especially if you have (or are) struggling with the feeling of being an outcast, though it will make you experience it all over again and make you cry (speaking from experience) :)

My roman empire

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

I heard from this book all about social media; it was described as very depressing, and I wanted to look into it, not aware Dazai would turn into my favourite author ever. Yes, this book is depressing; it's not a fun story, it's an autobiography. He describes his own depressing life. You follow him from his childhood to his adulthood in Japan a long time ago. He had his struggles and by all means was not really a good man. But at some points it hit me very deep, and at some points I felt really understood. Not a good thing in this case. Read it! It's worth it, but be prepared to feel very sad and dull after you finish it.

strange deep waters

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

I loved this book, not because it was relatable, but because it was not. It is facinating to see the world through someones’ eyes who dosn’t get the meaning of it or even understands that life is supposed to have meaning.
