    couldn‘t stop reading

The perfect romantasy with a strong female lead. i personally like a slower burn but it still took its time and rushed nothing. The first book in a while that made me forget that my phone exists.

    Yesssssss

Sooo. I'm kinda sad I only listened to this as entertaining while sick in bed. After I had it on my wishlist for a long time and almost accidentaly ordered it twice based of an arc Review AND a coworker saying this is close to dethroning ToG for her, I was so excited for this. And in the beginning I thought this was gonna be a year-highlight. Don't get me wrong, I loved it!! But in the end, there was some emotional connection missing for me. This could be entirely based on my state of mind atm, so I am really excited to read the next book(s) and will recommend this to anyone who'll listen.

This is definitely not a light fantasy read you pick up for something easy in between. Sarah A. Parker has created a world that feels completely its own – with its own terminology, concepts of time, rules and an entire system that you slowly have to learn to understand. And honestly, the way she describes this world is absolutely breathtaking. Her writing style fits it so incredibly well. I loved the whole concept of this story and its world so much. There is just so much potential here, and I think that’s also why I found myself being so torn about this book. Because while there were so many moments where I was completely fascinated by what I was reading, there were also quite a few moments where I simply lost the thread. Some parts felt confusing or a little all over the place, and I occasionally found myself thinking, “Okay… but where is this actually going right now?” One thing I really loved, though, were the different POVs. At first, they were honestly confusing because I had absolutely no idea what some of them had to do with the actual story. But as the book progresses, the pieces slowly start falling into place, and suddenly things begin to make sense. At the same time, I did find the story quite slow in places, and some things felt repetitive. And that was probably what disappointed me the most, because I wanted to love this book so badly. The story had so much potential for me, and there were so many elements that I genuinely adored – it just never managed to completely pull me in. I don’t think I’ve ever had a book that left me this emotionally and mentally torn. I could go from “THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL” to “I genuinely don’t know what’s happening anymore” within the same reading session. So… very mixed feelings. I loved parts of this world with my whole heart – I just wish the story itself had managed to pull me in as completely as the world did.

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

For romantasy readers looking for complex worlds

“WHEN THE MOON HATCHED” was so different than I expected and very unique (Dragons turning into moons when they die?? Hell, yes! Count me in!). It’s perfect for fans of dragons and court politics/royal family drama. The story took so many unexpected turns and I’m not sure how the author managed it, but it took no time at all to build emotional connections with the characters, even with those that are only mentioned by name, don’t have much dialogue or page time. It’s a Romantasy book first and foremost, but a very low-spice Romantasy, so don’t be discouraged to pick it up if the genre usually isn’t your cup of tea. The politics and action scenes were much more memorable and focused on, as well as the very unique worldbuilding and storytelling structure of mixing the main POVs with some flashbacks and snippets of one character’s past diary entries. At the same time, if you’re new to high fantasy IGNORE that huge glossary. I’m so happy I listened to a reviewer on Instagram who said to just start reading without looking at it. All you need to know, you’ll get through the actual text. “WHEN THE MOON HATCHED” positively surprised me and the second book is already on my TBR!

"He's fire and brimstone. I'm shattered ice."

An assassin for the rebellion gets into trouble when she meets an unknown acquaintance... Is she really the person she thinks she is? Strong female protagonist in a world full of intrigues, killers and dragons. A bit of a complicated story about different kingdoms and an interesting magic system as well as different breeds of dragons. It leaves you with a few questions but it is definitely catching! Eagerly waiting for the sequel!

Solide, aber nicht das erwartete Meisterwerk

Der Hype um dieses Buch hat mich ein Meisterwerk erwarten lassen - und dadurch enttäuscht zurückgelassen. In wirklich schöner Sprache startet When the Moon Hatched durchaus episch, hat sei.

    When the Moon Hatched

To be honest, I really struggled to get into the book at first. If you want to keep track of the world, the glossary at the end is absolutely invaluable. It took me about a hundred pages to get into the story, but after that, it just kept getting better. I could hardly put the book down. The story revolves around Raeve and Kaan, who meet by fate. Both are great protagonists, but even though Raeve is a strong character with a sharp mind and great humor, I still felt like something was missing… She’s so determined to handle everything on her own that she’s reluctant to accept Kaan’s help, which can get a little exhausting and frustrating at times. Being independent is by no means a bad thing, but it’s also important to know your own limits and sometimes accept a helping hand. On the other hand, I really liked Kaan. He’s kind, helpful and almost always considerate. Overall, I thought the worldbuilding was fantastic, and the concept really compelling. I’m looking forward to reading the second volume!

I have a lot of questions...

I really enjoyed the way Parker painted a very beautiful world with only her words. I sometimes miss that in romantasy books. When the moon hatched is not an easy book to read as I found myself constantly looking up words. I normally like different POV's but 5 are a lot of different topics and opinions around the whole storyline. I was left with a lot of questions which normally is a good sign, but the amount of confusion was really frustrating...
