Meine letzte Rezension Workhorse von Caroline Palmer
A unique debut novel set in the early 2000, in NYC. We follow a young woman in her 20s, who begins to work at a fashion magazine, soon the competition starts to overwhelm her, but instead of giving up she is willing to do anything to succeed and survive. C. Palmer did a great job of figuring out a balance between darker themes like envy, intrigues and toxic family dynamics and lighter themes such as ambition, friendships and the high society glamor. I really enjoyed reading this book, it felt like a combination of 'The Devil Wears Prada', 'Yellowface' and 'The Guest'. The main characters deal with a lot of drama, nevertheless the book has a feeling of calmness to it, which made it feel like a coming of age novel.

Addie experiences highs and lows and falls in love with living life again, simultaneously she has to learn to live with the pact she made with the devil. For someone damned to be forgotten, Addie LaRue is the most wholesome, independent and lovable character you will find between the pages of books. "The invisible life of Addie LaRue" is one of my all time favorite books. I love how Addie's journey is written and how she deals with whatever life throws her way. I highly recommend. <3

    Happy Place

    Happy Place von Emily Henry ist eins meiner Lieblingsbücher. Ich liebe Emily`s Schreibstil, sie schafft es ihre charaktere echt wirken zu lassen, mit Macken und Problemen die jedem Lesen bekannt vorkommen, weder die Geschichte noch die Charaktere sind überzogen, man fühlt sich einfach Zuhause. Zudem trifft Emily komplett meinen Humor, zwischen den beiden Hauuptcharakteren herscht so eine Chemie, ich muste ständig lächeln. Ich liebe dieses Buch und werde es noch einige Male in meinem Leben lesen.

    Dear Debbie

    This was the first book by Freida McFadden that I have read and she did not disappoint. "Dear Debbie" caught my attention because it deals with the topic of feminism and female rage. The life of the main character Debbie spirals out of control. She used to give advice in her column where hopeless wives came for sympathy and neighbourly advice. Unfortunately she got fired after she advised one of her readers to divorce her husband because he was financially abusing her, sadly this did not sit right with her conservative boss. Furthermore her husband seems to be keeping secrets from her and her teenage daughter starts acting strange. Finally Debbie is done being the bigger person and she starts taking her own advice. I really loved Freida’s writing style, the story hooked me from the start and the different POVs added to the story. I don’t want to give away too much but especially the ending reveals how incredibly smart Debbie acted all along and how strongly she internalized female rage. I would absolutely recommend this book, especially to readers who enjoy smart female main characters and surprising twists.
