Meine letzte Rezension Beklaute Frauen von Leonie Schöler
An sich finde ich das Buch gut und das Thema ist auch unglaublich wichtig. Ich muss allerdings sagen, dass ich mir einen differenzierten und teils weniger meinungsgeträngten Blick auf das Thema gewünscht hätte. Der Grund dafür ist ganz simpel: Ein Sachbuch über Feminismus sollte jeden mindestens auf dem kleinsten gemeinsamen Nenner abholen können und der hier angestrebbte Tonus ist leider zu polarisierend. Daher für Leute die im Thema sowieso schon überzeugt drin sind top, für Einsteiger oder Gesprächsanreger/ Perspektivenwechsel leider eher weniger.

Beklaute Frauen

    The Child Thief

    Without a doubt. I enjoyed every book of Brom I´ve read thus far. But this? I love this. I don´t read books twice. Never have and never felt the need to, but if I could monkey paw myself into forgetting everything about this book just to read it again and be so gloriously gaslight again I´d do it in a heartbeat. Please beware: The Story is really dark. Child abuse, death and neglect are the key theme of this book, and it does not hold back, though not to graphic it gets intense. While grim they don´t feel sensationalized and are indeed necessary for the plot. Otherwise, the childthief is at its core a coming-of-age story and as almost all of Brom´s books, a story about kinship through outsider hood. It takes you along, makes you feel save and then rips the carpet under your feet away in the-as before mentioned- most glorious process of manipulation.

    Ein endender Gott auf Sightseeing-Tour, ein unsterblicher "Romantiker" und eine Schülerin, die ihrer toten besten Freundin ins Jenseits hinterher sprintet, machen sich auf zu einem besonderem Ziel: das Reich der Toten. Eine Triologie über Bedauern, Abschied nehmen und Wertschätzen verpackt in einem Artstyle der seines gleichen sucht. Wärmstens zu empfehlen!

    Evil in Me

    Third book I read from him; third book I absolutely devoured. Brom builds his stories as beautifully as his included art pieces. His characters are fleshed out and always bleed a certain vibe of ostracisation. The bundle of punkish flavored freaks we follow this time might be my favorite so far. So if you´re looking for a dark urban yet freaky Fantasy set in prime satanic panic ridden america of the 1980s, then let me recommend you this wholeheartedly!

    Abitha is wed to Edward a (for puritan standarts) nice and openminded man. After a tragic accident she is left to care for their farm and debts alone, much to the growing dismay of the strictly religious town and Edward´s brother Wallace, who tries to reclaim the land in his families name. All the while strange things start to happen around the young woman´s home. But could it really be old Slewfoot roaming about? Abitha´s tale is one of outsiderhood and finding belonging in the strange and unusual. Beautifully written with one foot in historic fiction and the other in dark fantasy. Concluding in a twisted yet satisfying ending. Would highly recommend!

    Witchcraft for Wayward Girls

    I love feminist horror. But it´s a very complex genre and some works tend to wildly dangle around popular or controversial topics like they´re shiny keys to a toddler, without actually adressing the systematic issues behind them. Not this time. Hendrix writing is just deeply empathic and makes you smile, weep and rage. The characters,especially the antagonists feel like actual people, with motivations and reasons, instead of 2d mustache twirling villians. But a word of warning it does get very graphic in an almost body-horror-esque way. Definitely one of my favoirites of the genre and a highlight of the year!

    Wer bist du zur Blauen Stunde? 1

    Nach dem "Hiraeth-Heimweh nach Endlichkeit" mein absolutes Highlight war, bin ich mit hohen Erwartungen in den Manga eingestiegen. Und ich wurde nicht enttäuscht. Die queere Coming-of-Age Story holt einen ab, unabhängig davon ob man selber die Erfahrung und Ängste eines Coming-Outs erfahren hat. Eingerahmt wird das ganze von Kamatanis unvergleichlich schönen Panels, die Emotinen auf eine einfach unglaubliche Art und Weise einfangen. Absolut lesenswert!

    A Game of Thrones

    Vorab das Buch war für mich eine persönliche Redemption-Arc, da ich die Reihe das erste Mal mit 15/16 auf Ersuchen meiner besten Freundin gelesen hatte und nach dem Berg, den dieses Epos darstellte, der festen Meinung war, das schlechteste Buch aller Zeiten gelesen zu haben (Was ich zu Teilen auf die deutsche Ausgabe schiebe, da diese nur die erste Hälfte abdeckt und an einem wirklich fragwürdigen Punkt endet). Nun ein Jahrzehnt und eine enttäuschend vollendete Serie später, wollte ich dem Ganzen eine zweite Chance geben und ich bin ehrlich froh. Für mich hat das Wissen was als nächstes passiert meine Freude bei Lesen nicht geschmälert, sondern mich eher mit trauriger Nostalgie gefüllt. Zusätzlich gibt Martin durch die POV teils wichtige Introspektive, die der positiven Charakterisierung mancher Figuren wirklich helfen (vorrangig Sansa). Das Buch bietet zudem deutlich weniger “expliziten Fanservice” als die Serie. Allgemein habe ich für Martins Schreibkunst nur Lob übrig. Selten hatte ich das Gefühl 800 Seiten zu lesen. Das Worldbuiling ist fantastisch. Die Charaktere und die Story ausgearbeitet und über die Dialoge kann ich nur Lobeslieder singen. Ich muss allerdings anführen, wer nach traditioneller Fantasy sucht, ala Tolkien, Sanderson etc. wird sich hier womöglich schwertun. Tatsächlich erinnert "A Game of Thrones" durch den hohen Anteil an hofpolitischer Intrige und Fehden mehr an einen aktiongeladenen historischen Roman im Fantasy-Setting.

    Blood on Her Tongue

    This was just good. Very well written with a flair that I can only describe as Stockeresque. It simply feels like an oldtimey horror novel in the best way possible. It also brings in the original creepy depiction of vamperism as something otherworldy, something incomprehensible and Veen´s own take on the subject might be one of my favorite parts of this book. The characters are well rounded and their actions and relaitionships feel realistic and wellplaced in the timing of the story. Also the gore is well done. Used in well placed moments and the right amount of descriptive to make you truly uncomfortable. All in all a great book I would highly recommend.
