Meine letzte Rezension Laute Nächte von Anne Freytag

Schande über mein Haupt - dies war mein erstes Buch von Anne Freytag. Und nun verstehe ich endlich, warum ihre Bücher so geliebt werden. In "Laute Nächte" begleiten wir Kenni, der gerade seine Freundin Jasmin bei einem Autounfall verloren hat und in eine WG in Wien zieht, die alles verändern wird. Selten konnte mich ein Schreibstil so mitreißen, wie der von Anne Freytag. Ein überaus gelungenes Werk über Trauer, Freundschaft und das Weiterleben trotz allem.

A Psalm for the Wild-Built

This book is about a tea monk, a robot and about what it means to be a human in this world. About our relationship with nature and with the meaning and purpose of life and sentient beings. Honestly, stories about artificial intelligence always get to me but this did so especially. It's thoughtful, well written and I still think about it a lot, years after my first time reading it.

Angels Before Man

Ah yes, my favorite kind of genre: blasphemy. Lucifer is the most beautiful angel in heaven, yet something feels off. Something is missing. This queer retelling of the fall of Gods very favorite angel presses forward so many aching and important questions about faith, morality and much more. I don't know what to say about this book other than: I'm in awe. I'm obsessed, I'm agog, I'm blown away. I did not want this beautifully written story to end.

Marianengraben

11 tausend Meter ist ganz schön tief. Doch genau da, an diesem Tiefpunkt, steckt Paula fest. Ihr kleiner Bruder ist verstorben und ihr Leben ist aus den Fugen geraten. Durch eine absurde und aberwitzige Situation lernt sie jedoch Helmut kennen. Auch er trauert, und die beiden entschließen sich zu einen gemeinsamen Roadtrip in die Alpen. So weit so gut, doch was sich hinter dieser Prämisse versteckt und daraus entwickelt, habe ich vor dem Lesen nicht erwarten können. So viel Witz, Emotionalität, Lebensmut aber auch die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Tod und mit Abschied... Davor und danach hat mich kein Buch je so emotional berührt wie "Marianengraben". Eine ganz große Leseempfehlung! (Halte bitte beim Lesen Taschentücher bereit!)

Everyone in This Room Will Someday Be Dead

Emily Austins writing is comforting as well as painfully real. This book had such a quirky premise and protagonist and surprisingly everything about it worked so incredibly well. The story turned out to be heartfelt and so real it broke my heart. I don't think I have ever read anything that captured what it means to live with constant anxiety as well as this did. A total recommendation!

Project Hail Mary

I'm not going to lie the first 50 pages I was pretty sceptical of why this was so hyped. But when it started flowing, the more time we spent with Grace and then, when we finally met Rocky, I 100% knew what all the noise had been about. Because while, yes, this is a Sci-Fi book, I felt like in the first place, this was a story about an unlikely friendship that conquered all the odds. I was enarmoured by the humor and the wit of Weirs writing, but most of all I was enarmoured with Rocky. That little rock/spider shaped alien will definetly hold a very special place in my heart. Even if you're not the biggest fan of Sci-Fi, you will absolutely love this book, I'm sure of it.

The Picture of Dorian Gray

This is a classic for a reason. When I read the very first words I was enamoured by the beauty within these pages. The poetic descriptions, the questions of morality, the twisted motives, I simply fell in love with this book. If you want to read a classic, let it be this one.

Crier's War

This is one of my favorite fantasy books ever. Because it has androids. And it has Crier. Seriously, I don't think I'll ever love a book character more than I love her. "Crier's War" shines in world building, in characterization, in pacing, in pretty much everything it does. It sets up this unique premise perfectly so that you immediately want to grab the second book (which is even better and completes the duology perfectly, in my opinion).

All That's Left in the World

"All that's left in the world" quickly turned into such a comfort book for me. I chose to read this without much expectations and that was the best thing I could have done. Since I couldn't expect how much I would enjoy losing myself within the pages. While reading this I could truly smell the late summer air, I could see the empty and still roads and I could feel the emotions of our protagonists.

I do not know why it has taken me this long to allow myself to experience the joy of diving into the world of Percy Jackson. The characters, the the whimsy, the adventure, the thrill, it's just a goblet of wonders that keeps on giving. I haven't been this excited about continuing a series in a while.

Thornhedge

Toadling is guarding a huge thornhedge surrounding a keep where a sleeping princess lay. One day a knight wants to cut through the hedge and rescue the maiden trapped within. We discover the unexpected back story of Toadling and why she's tasked to stay her ground. I expected to love this as I've loved other work of T. Kingfisher and I was not disappointed. This might be my favorite by her yet. I just loved following Toadling as our protagonist. It's a strange story, sometimes dark, sometimes so endearing. And another bonus: You can totally finish this in one sitting.
