  Don't Let The Forest In

  This book was breathtaking. The themes of mental health, grief and love were wrapped up in a sometimes very disturbing way. The intricate descriptions were poetic and would be beautiful in an other context and at times very gory imagery. For anyone who wants to be mesmerised by botanical imagery and manifest a fear of trees at the same time, this book should be read.

  You Weren't Meant to Be Human

  Andrew Joseph White always manages to make me both cry and feel disgusted within the same book. The descriptions are so graphic that they transport you directly into the story, turning my stomach and bringing tears to my eyes. But given the premise, I didn't expect anything else. I mean: an autistic trans man, body horror, a cult and lots of crying on my part. What could be better?!

  A boy tries to solve a murder and discovers so much more than he ever thought possible. C. G. Drews is one of the few authors whose books I buy without hesitation. And with this book, they have once again proven that it’s a good idea. Evander and Laurie share an incredibly fascinating and beautiful dynamic, shaped by everything that draws them together and pushes them apart. The way the Author paints pictures with words and make the most disturbing things sound poetic and lovable is a really unique talent they have perfected. I can´t wait for their next Book to be published.

  Heaven Official's Blessing 1: Tian Guan Ci Fu (Novel) 1

  I normally don´t tend to like series that are longer than 2-3 Books, but this one changed my mind in record time. The characters and the story are told very lovingly and humorously and after I finished it I immediately wanted more. So much so that I purchased pretty much the entire series after reading this one. I'm glad I got to fall in love with this series, their characters and the story.

  The Red Winter

  Cameron Sullivan's refreshing writing style was just what I needed to get me through this book. Readers follow the story of Sebastian Grave, a man who has more than one skeleton in his closet. Hoping to repair his broken relationship with his former lover, he sets off for the place he had to flee from 20 years ago. But let's be honest, dismissing Sullivan's book as a ‘werewolf story’ doesn't do it justice at all. It is a dark fantasy with plenty of blood, cruelty and attention to detail. Above all, the relationships between the characters (Sebastian, Antoine and Salmodel in particular) were both heartbreaking and heartwarming, and the fact that all of this is infused with a wonderful amount of charm and wit confirms Sullivan's talent and love for his craft. Truly a top tier debut.

  Was die Nacht verschweigt: Die Fortsetzung von WAS DIE TOTEN BEWEGT – Eine packende und atmosphärische Erzählung in der Tradition von Edgar Allan Poe

  Auch der folge Band in der "Sworn Soldier" Reihe kann mit einem fantastischen Schreibstil und außergewöhnlichen Charakteren überzeugen. Easton, nun nach langer Zeit zurück in deren Heimat, muss erneut das Rätsel um eine unbekannte Kraft lösen, bevor es für die ein oder anderen tödlich enden könnte. Auch dieser Titel war ein Grund dafür, dass T. Kingfisher bei mir persönlich mittlerweile einen besonderen Status hat, weshalb alles von Ihr automatisch in meinem Warenkorb landet.

  Dieser Fantasy Einzelband ist seit langem ein Buch, das die Fantasy Aspekte anstatt die Romance in den Vordergrund stellt. Mit einer starken und dickköpfigen Protagonistin mit hohen Ambitionen in einem durch und durch Männerdominierten System. Sexismus, Rassismus, Glaube und Gesellschaftskritik im allgemeinen verbinden sich hier mit einem unfassbar interessanten Magiesystem und einer Geschichte, die mich durch Ihre Raffinesse und Brutalität aus den Socken gehauen hat.

  Diese Buch ist definitiv eines meiner Thriller Highlights dieses Jahr! Die Spannung, die seit Seite Eins aufgebaut wird, packt einen sofort und lässt einen bis zum Ende nicht mehr los. Nicht ein einziges mal war ich in der Lage das Buch zur Seite zu legen, bevor ich es beendet habe, da sowohl die Charaktere, ihre Verbindung, Sturköpfigkeit und Tatendrang als auch die Atmosphäre und der Schreibstyle ein tiefes Mitempfinden in mir entfacht haben.

  The Knight and the Moth

  Unsurprisingly, but no less wonderfully, Rachel Gillig has managed to capture my attention with this book too. Her dark Gothic romance stories always end up in my shopping cart before I even get a chance to read the blurb, and so far I've never been disappointed! Her writing style, the characters, and the peak comedy she sprinkles in at just the right moments make me long for the second volume already!

  Fable for the End of the World

  Es ist eine Geschichte in der Autorität hinterfragt und der Menschen wegen Ihrer Schulden in ein tödliches Gefächt gezwungen werden. Insgesamt verbindet das Buch Elemente aus "Tribute von Panem" mit einer Queeren Love story und es funktioniert perfekt. Die Entwicklung der Charaktere, die entfachenden Gefühle für einander und die nerven aufreibende Atmosphäre machen es zu einem meiner persönlichen Jahres Highlights!
