Meine letzte Rezension Tusk Love von Thea Guanzon
Like many Critical Role fans, I was incredibly hyped when Tusk Love was announced as a real book. The running joke from Campaign 2 had so much potential. Unfortunately, for me, this was a disappointing read that just didn't deliver on its promises. This might be my problem entirely, as I was probably expecting a story that was a bit more in-depth and with a lot more easter eggs or something for fans of CR. Tusk Love feels less like a passion project for Critters and more like a generic, spicy romance novel with a popular IP slapped on the cover. Unless you are looking for a completely mindless, low-stakes comfort read, I’d suggest skipping this one entirely.

    Babel

Babel is an absolute triumph of dark academia and speculative fiction. Set in an alternate 1830s Oxford, the story follows a young Chinese orphan brought to the prestigious Royal Institute of Translation, where the British Empire's global dominance is fueled by a magical system of silver-working that relies on lost meanings between translated languages. As he and his close-knit cohort of fellow outsiders navigate their elite education, they are inevitably forced to confront the brutal, imperialistic machinery they are helping to maintain. Kuang has crafted an incredibly dense, meticulously researched, and deeply atmospheric novel. The magic system based on etymology is really unique, making the act of translation itself feel both wondrous and devastatingly dangerous. It is a slow-burn, thought-provoking exploration of colonialism, racism, and the heavy price of complicity. The emotional bond between the core group of students is beautifully written. If you love dark academia with an on-point social commentary, and a story that will leave you absolutely breathless, this is a monumental must-read!

    The Will of the Many

Mit The Will of the Many hat James Islington ein Fantasy-Meisterwerk abgeliefert, das von Seite eins an ohne Umwege in medias res geht.

    Yellowface

R.F. Kuang’s Yellowface is an absolute must-read that will keep you glued to the pages from start to finish. This book is a wildly entertaining, deeply uncomfortable, and brilliantly executed satire of the modern publishing industry. Kuang ruthlessly dissects themes of cultural appropriation, white privilege, and the toxic echo chamber of social media. You will find yourself absolutely despising the protagonist, yet completely unable to look away as her web of lies inevitably unravels. If you are looking for a thought-provoking, fast-paced page-turner that stays with you long after the final chapter, this is exactly what you need!

    Piranesi

Piranesi is an absolute success of atmospheric storytelling and surreal imagination that will completely transport you to another world. The story follows a man who lives peacefully in a vast, infinite labyrinth known simply as the House—a place filled with crashing ocean tides, indoor clouds, and magnificent marble statues—until strange new evidence begins to unravel everything he knows about his isolated existence. What makes this novel so extraordinary is its profound, meditative exploration of solitude, innocence, and the fragility of human memory. The world-building is really unique; the House itself feels like a living, breathing character that is simultaneously beautiful, tranquil, and subtly menacing. Instead of relying on fast-paced action, Clarke crafts a slow, mesmerizing puzzle that gently unfolds, pulling the reader into a deeply dreamlike state. The prose is elegant, immersive, and tinged with a creeping sense of psychological suspense as the underlying mystery reveals itself. It is a haunting, philosophical, and deeply magical reading experience. You will either love it or won‘t be bothered with it at all.
