    Buch (Taschenbuch)

So, jetzt springe ich ab – thanks for the ride!

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

    highlight!!

Wer darf was erzählen?

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

    This is a masterpiece

I went into this with zero expectations and absolutely no background knowledge and honestly… I’m so glad I did because it allowed me to experience the full insanity of it all. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book where the main character constantly breaks the fourth wall trying to convince us that she’s actually a good person and definitely not racist. Like… girl. Let me hold your hand while I say this… A huge part of her character is that she genuinely thinks she means well and therefore can’t be part of the problem. She keeps justifying herself with things like “but I worked hard too” while completely missing the actual issue every single time. She’s incredibly ignorant and reading from her perspective was honestly painful at times. But to be fair… I didn’t like her “friend” either. She’s literally the type of person who takes someone else’s trauma, turns it into a bestselling story without proper consent, and emotionally manipulates people into giving her material for her next project. Everyone in this book kind of pissed me off in their own special way. And somehow… that’s exactly what makes this book so good. I love how different this story feels from most books. Was it enjoyable? Honestly… not really. I was annoyed, angry, and frustrated most of the time. But thats exactly the point of this book. and if you didnt get it then…well that says alot about you. This genuinely feels like one of those books that should be read and discussed in school classes because there’s so much to unpack. book.things_j | JessTales TikTok | Instagram | Goodreads | Amazon | OrellFüssli

    eBook (ePUB 3)

    Absolut Umwerfend

Quite sobering - in a good way

In "Yellowface" Kuang forces you to make up your own opinion of what's right and wrong, I really enjoyed that. Obviously it is mainly a criticism of the book industry as a whole but also of society and the behaviour of people online. That alone creates a sense of realism but the mentions of brands and real life artists really make it seem like the story might be happening right in that moment. I think "Yellowface" might function as a way to make people understand how their actions (online) can affect others. The ending left me feeling nihilistic and blighted but despite that I had a lot of fun - as you can tell by my rating.

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

A Razor-Sharp Satire of the Publishing World

R.F. Kuang’s Yellowface is an absolute must-read that will keep you glued to the pages from start to finish. This book is a wildly entertaining, deeply uncomfortable, and brilliantly executed satire of the modern publishing industry. Kuang ruthlessly dissects themes of cultural appropriation, white privilege, and the toxic echo chamber of social media. You will find yourself absolutely despising the protagonist, yet completely unable to look away as her web of lies inevitably unravels. If you are looking for a thought-provoking, fast-paced page-turner that stays with you long after the final chapter, this is exactly what you need!

When the Antagonist Is the Protagonist

Yellowface is a great book that’s quick to read and I really enjoyed it. It has a fascinating theme and tackles topics I hadn’t thought much about before. It was really interesting to read a story where the antagonist is the protagonist. Such a cool concept!

    Buch (Taschenbuch)

    Provocative and thought provoking

Dive deep into a provocative and addicting story about the publishing industry, racism and cultural appropriation, plagiarism, and social media full of hate and cancel culture. With its satirical undertones and a highly unlikeable protagonist, Kuang created a story I couldn’t put down. I was constantly torn between feeling sorry for June and condemning her morally gray actions. This book really got me thinking, and I don’t think I’ll forget it anytime soon.
