Elizabeth Visits America is a novel by Elinor Glyn that follows the story of Elizabeth, a young British woman who travels to America to visit her wealthy uncle. The novel is set in the early 1900s and explores the cultural differences between America and England during that time.Elizabeth is initially hesitant about traveling to America, but she is excited to visit her uncle and experience a new culture. Upon arriving in America, she is immediately struck by the differences between the two countries, from the bustling streets of New York City to the extravagant parties and social events that her uncle's wealthy friends attend. As Elizabeth navigates this new world, she meets a variety of interesting characters, including a handsome American man named Jack. Elizabeth is drawn to Jack, but their relationship is complicated by the cultural differences between them and the expectations of their respective societies.Throughout the novel, Elizabeth grapples with her own identity and the expectations placed upon her as a young British woman. She must decide whether to conform to these expectations or forge her own path in America.Overall, Elizabeth Visits America is a compelling story of love, culture clash, and self-discovery set against the backdrop of turn-of-the-century America. Now we are staying in a country palace with the family we met on the boat, whom the Americans we know in England would not speak to; in fact, I am sure they are rather hurt at our coming here; but Octavia says she prefers to see something we do not see in England. The Van Verdens, and Courtfields and Latours are almost like us, only they are richer and have better French furniture. So she says she wants to see the others, the American Americans we don't meet at home. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
