""Friends Though Divided"" is a historical fiction novel by G.A. Henty, first published in 1883. Set during the English Civil War, the story follows two friends, Harry Furness and Herbert Rippinghall, who find themselves on opposing sides of the conflict. Harry is a Royalist and fights for King Charles I, while Herbert is a Parliamentarian and fights for Oliver Cromwell. Despite their differences, the two friends remain loyal to each other and their friendship is put to the test as the war rages on. The novel is filled with action, adventure, and historical details that bring the period to life. It presents a balanced view of the conflict, showing the motivations and perspectives of both sides. Through the eyes of the two protagonists, the reader gains insight into the personal and political struggles of the time. ""Friends Though Divided"" is a timeless story of loyalty, friendship, and the human cost of war.It was a pleasant afternoon in the month of July, 1642, when three young people sat together on a shady bank at the edge of a wood some three miles from Oxford. The country was undulating and picturesque, and a little more than a mile in front of them rose the lofty spire of St. Helen's, Abingdon. The party consisted of two lads, who were about fifteen years of age, and a girl of ten. The lads, although of about the same height and build, were singularly unlike. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
