""Corea the Hermit Nation"" is a historical account of Korea written by William Elliot Griffis. The book provides a thorough examination of Korea's history, culture, and society during the time of its self-imposed isolation from the rest of the world. Griffis delves into the country's unique political and social structures, as well as its art, literature, and religion. He also explores the impact of foreign influence on Korea, including the arrival of Christian missionaries and the country's eventual opening to the world in the late 19th century. Through his detailed analysis, Griffis offers readers a comprehensive understanding of Korea's past and its place in the global community.1904. The author, William Elliot Griffis, is the only American living that has made the interior of Japan his residence and has seen the feudal system there in operation. The Contents of Corea is divided into the following three Parts: Ancient and Mediaeval History; Political and Social Corea; and Modern and Recent History. This book covers Korean ancient and modern history (to 1904), politics, culture, and relations with France, Japan, China, Russia. Griffis became interested in the hermit country across the sea and spent several years preparing this work.
