A Knight of the Cumberland is a historical fiction novel written by John Fox Jr. The story takes place in the Cumberland Mountains of Kentucky during the late 1800s. The main character, Colonel Calvin Morgan, is a wealthy landowner and ex-Confederate soldier who is determined to maintain his family's honor and legacy. He is also committed to protecting his land and the people who live on it from outside forces. The novel follows Morgan's journey as he faces various challenges, including a feud with a neighboring family, a conflict with a group of coal miners, and a love triangle involving his daughter and a young lawyer. Throughout the story, Morgan must navigate his way through these challenges while maintaining his principles and values. The book also explores themes of honor, loyalty, and justice, as well as the complexities of relationships between family, friends, and enemies. It provides a vivid portrayal of life in rural Kentucky during this time period, including the struggles and hardships faced by the people who lived there.Overall, A Knight of the Cumberland is a compelling and well-written novel that offers a unique perspective on the history and culture of the Cumberland Mountains.Thereafter the Wild Dog was in town every day, and he behaved well until one Saturday he got drunk again, and this time, by a peculiar chance, it was Marston again who leaped on him, wrenched his pistol away, and put him in the calaboose. Again he paid his fine, promptly visited a blind Tiger, came back to town, emptied another pistol at Marston on sight and fled for the hills. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
