Taras Bulba and Other Tales is a collection of short stories by Nikolai Gogol, a prominent Russian writer of the 19th century. The book includes five stories, each depicting different aspects of Russian life and culture. The title story, Taras Bulba, is a historical tale set in the 16th century that follows the life of a Cossack warrior and his two sons. The story explores themes of loyalty, family, and the struggle for independence. The other four stories in the collection are The Nose, The Overcoat, Nevsky Prospect, and The Portrait. The Nose is a satirical tale about a man who wakes up to find his nose missing, and the absurd events that follow. The Overcoat is a poignant story about a poor clerk who becomes obsessed with obtaining a new coat, only to have it stolen from him. Nevsky Prospect is a humorous account of a man's misadventures on a busy street in St. Petersburg. The Portrait is a ghost story about a young artist who becomes haunted by the portrait of a beautiful woman he painted.Overall, Taras Bulba and Other Tales is a fascinating glimpse into Russian literature and culture, showcasing Gogol's unique blend of humor, tragedy, and social commentary. All three horsemen rode in silence. Old Taras's thoughts were far away: before him passed his youth, his years--the swift-flying years, over which the Cossack always weeps, wishing that his life might be all youth. He wondered whom of his former comrades he should meet at the Setch. He reckoned up how many had already died, how many were still alive. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
