Tartarin of Tarascon is a novel written by French author Alphonse Daudet. The story is set in the small town of Tarascon in southern France and follows the adventures of Tartarin, a larger-than-life character who is obsessed with hunting and adventure. Tartarin is a proud and boastful man who is constantly telling tall tales of his exploits to anyone who will listen. However, when he is challenged to go on a real hunting expedition to Algeria, he finds himself in over his head. The novel is a humorous satire on the romanticized ideas of adventure and heroism, and also explores themes of identity and self-delusion. The book is a classic of French literature and has been translated into many languages. In the first place you must know that everybody is shooting mad in these parts, from the greatest to the least. The chase is the local craze, and so it has ever been since the mythological times when the Tarasque, as the county dragon was called, flourished himself and his tail in the town marshes, and entertained shooting parties got up against him. So you see the passion has lasted a goodish bit. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
