The Forever War

Joe Haldemann`s "The Forever War" is widely considered the ultimate anti-war sci-fi novel. Following William Mandella through an intergalactic war between humans and an extraterrestrian species, we witness the alienation of the soldier and the society he is fighting for. This topic is something Joe Haldemann himself experienced in his military service during the war in Vietnam and is cleverly emphasized by the concept of time dilation. The years the protagonist spends in his various campaigns equal centuries on earth. He tells his story in a relatable and believable way and stays a likeable character through all his experiences.
