Agrarian Justice argues that private ownership of land deprives people of a shared natural inheritance and proposes payments to the young and elderly funded through an inheritance tax on landed property. Together, these works reveal Paine as a radical advocate of liberty whose ideas about democracy, human rights, freedom of conscience, and social responsibility remain provocative and influential.
