Socialism: Utopian And Scientific is a book written by Frederick Engels and first published in 1880. The book is a critique of the utopian socialists who believed in creating a perfect society through the establishment of experimental communities, and an explanation of the scientific basis of socialism. Engels argues that socialism is not a mere moral or ethical idea, but a scientific theory based on the laws of historical development. He explains that socialism is the inevitable result of the contradictions and conflicts inherent in capitalist society. Engels also critiques the ideas of utopian socialists like Robert Owen, Charles Fourier, and Saint-Simon, arguing that their visions were unrealistic and failed to address the fundamental problems of capitalist society. The book is considered a classic of Marxist literature and a key text in the development of socialist thought. It remains relevant today as a critique of the limitations of capitalist society and a call for a more just and equitable system. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
