In der Arbeit wird eine Annäherung an das Phänomen gewaltförmiger Regimewechsel und hier besonders des Staatsstreichs im sub-saharischen Afrika mit empirischen Mitteln vorgenommen. Dabei wird zunächst die Frage geklärt, welche Typen gewaltförmiger Regimewechsel sich unterscheiden lassen und was unter der Häufung solcher gewaltförmigen Regimewechsel zu verstehen ist. Der Vf. untersucht in seiner Arbeit insgesamt 127 gewaltförmige Regimewechsel in ganz Afrika aus dem Zeitraum von 1952-2005 und nimmt vier "Grundtypen" von gewaltförmigen Regimewechseln an (1. Machtwechsel infolge von Krieg oder milit. Intervention etc., 2. Staatsstreich, 3. Revolution, 4. Palastrevolution). In der Arbeit werden zudem die in vorangegangenen Studien zum Phänomen des Staatsstreich im sub-saharischen Afrika vorgelegten Erklärungsmodelle für das gehäufte Vorkommen gewaltförmiger Regimewechsel, vor dem Hintergrund des heutigen Erkenntnisstandes auf ihre "Gültigkeit" hin geprüft und Darstellung gewaltförmiger Regimewechsel in den Medien sowie in einer eher populärwissenschaftlichen Literatur, in welchen/r bestimmte Klischees gepflegt werden, untersucht.
In this work an approach to the phenomenon of violent regime change and, in particular, of the coup d'étrat in sub-Saharan Africa is undertaken in an empirical way. A combination of description and literare-analysis is taken as basis, insofar as such a survey is possible in the case of a historical or politic-ethnological research topic. The study begins dealing with the question which types of violent regime change can be distinguished in Africa and what is meant by an accumulation of such violent regime changes, as well as establishing that such an accumulation actually exists in sub-Saharan Africa. The author is limiting the investigation in this paper to a total of 127 violent regime changes in the whole of Africa in the period of 1952-2005. Furthermore, in this paper the explanatory models for the cumulative incidence of violent regime changes presented in previous studies on the phenomenon of the coup d'état in sub-Saharan Africa are investigated and analyzed as to their "validity" against the background of today's level of knowledge. An additional topic investigated in the study is the representation of violent regime change in the media, as well as in literature tending towards popularization.
