Fierce protagonists in a world that is determined to look down on them, cruel, ancient beings and plot points right out of the fairy tales of old - What more could I ever ask for? Now, I (personally) like my protagonists headstrong, my romance just barely there (somewhere between the lines) and my prose descriptive and lyrical. And Spinning Silver is exactly that. Combined with a beautiful wintry setting and decidedly feminist premise, it's easily one of my favourite books ever. Definitely try this one if you liked "The Bear and the Nightingale"!
