W. E. B. Du Bois presents a concise and powerful history of people of African descent, tracing their story from ancient civilizations through the modern world. In this important historical study, Du Bois challenges the widespread misconceptions of his time by demonstrating the deep and complex history of African peoples and their global contributions. Drawing upon historical records and scholarship, he examines the origins of African civilizations, the development of African societies, and the profound impact of the transatlantic slave trade. Du Bois places the history of African peoples within the broader narrative of world history, showing that Africa and its diaspora played a significant role in shaping the development of modern societies. His work offers both historical analysis and a forceful argument against the racial theories that dominated much academic and political thought in the early twentieth century. Clear, direct, and intellectually rigorous, The Negro remains one of the early foundational works in the scholarly study of African history and the African diaspora.
