Small Pleasures Longlisted for the Women's Prize for Fiction

i liked the idea, but the execution was lacking. • wildly foreseeable (i won't dare to call them) twists and turns • horrible, and frankly insulting, narrative of queer love: possessive, jealous, abusive, home-wrecking, with a deep hatred of men & children, called 'a terrible mistake' • talks about chronically ill people as 'inspirations' ughh • wastes potential by giving space to heteronormative 'the good man and saviour' worshipping instead of the wlw story, which happens, but only at the sidelines, in like 2 sentences & of course is tragic • buuut interesting view on mother daughter relationships, duty and the need to be (/present as?) a good person
