Excellent read about French cuisine & Lyon

Bewertung aus Hannover am 10.12.2021

Bewertungsnummer: 1620980

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

If you enjoyed reading Anthony Bourdain's "Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly", you will possible enjoy this book by Bill Bufford too. It's a bit like a follow up of the book "Heat", in which he learned more about Italian food and butchers. It's a fictional book about food, French kitchen and living in Lyon. Bill Buford is an American journalist and author, who decides to move with his family from the U.S. to Lyon in order to explore French food. Among others, he works as an intern in a boulangerie, at La Mère Brazie, and attends classes Institut Paul Bocuse. Bill is also interested in the history of cooking, so you'll find a few paragraphs focusing on research, e.g. researching the origins of the "ragout" (can be a bit dry though). Well, the book is a bit liking a travel report and the author describes the way of French (Lyonnaise) way of living, including its challenges (from an American point of view). Particularly if you have lived or traveled in France and the U.S., you will enjoy reading the book and smile about the cultural differences. Happy reading!
