A Master of Djinn

Steampunk Murder Mystery in Cairo, mit sehr viel Magie. Und dann noch eine lesbische Agentin als Hauptfigur. Ja, es ist ein ungewöhnliches, aber dafür umso spannenderes Fantasybuch Mit einem komplexen Worldbuilding und tollen Charakteren hat es überzeugt, ich würde dem Buch 4,5 Sterne geben.

Having read a lot of European myth inspired fantasy books, this one was a welcome surprise, when I stumbled upon it here. I had been wanting to read about a magical Egypt for quite some time and while this wasn't yet a masterpiece, it was definitely worth the read. I loved the intrigue of this new setting and the focus on different species of Djinn over old gods-focused ones. I was immersed in the culture with its smells and heat, beautiful architecture, colors and spices and conflicts. An added bones was the female protagonist in a complicated relationship with another woman that wasn't constantly emphasized, but rather just part of it all. That's how it's done well! Also props to the author for keeping me too busy to figure out the answer to the mystery, before it was revealed. Well done. Looking forward to Clark's progress as an author.
