On 29 March 1777, a plan surfaced that threatened the Revolution from within. Still unsettling today. Secrets outrun armies in wartime. In Mr. Lee's Plan, historian George Henry Moore reopens the Charles Lee treason case with the force of a prosecuting brief and the restraint of a seasoned archivist. Part american revolution nonfiction, part revolutionary war military history, it follows the paper trail around the Continental Army's most unsettling question: did the second-in-command aid the enemy while America fought for survival? Moore brings together political context, military consequence, and sharply reasoned historical biography and analysis, setting Lee's conduct beside colonial America politics, George Washington leadership, and the bitter pressures of command. The result is a clear-eyed study of continental army intrigue and the machinery of court martial proceedings, written close enough to the events to catch the era's anxieties yet far enough to weigh evidence. Its importance endures because it shows how a young republic policed its own ranks, and how suspicion could shape strategy in the 1777 revolutionary war. Tense, procedural, and gripping. For readers drawn to the fault lines of loyalty, this book sits naturally alongside stories of benedict arnold betrayal, offering a rarer case built on documents and argument rather than legend. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today - a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike, and ideal as a library reference edition and scholarly reprint edition.
