The party controls what people read, speak, say and do with the threat that if they disobey, they will be sent to the dreaded Room 101 as a looming punishment...
Orwell wrote "1984" as a warning after years of brooding on the twin menaces of Nazism and Stalinism. Its depiction of a state where daring to think differently is rewarded with torture, where people are monitored every second of the day, and where party propaganda trumps free speech and thought is a sobering reminder of the evils of unaccountable governments. Winston is the symbol of the values of civilised life, and his defeat is a poignant reminder of the vulnerability of such values in the midst of all-powerful states.

"Who controls the past controls the future, who controls the present controls the past." Ein wichtiges Buch, besonders für unsere Zeit. Die thought Police, Newspeak, War Is Peace, Freedom Is Slavery, Ignorance Is Strenght, Big Brother Is Watching You geben uns Parallelen zu unserer Welt welche wir sehen können, wenn wir genauer hingucken. 1984 sagt uns wie gefährlich absolute staatliche Kontrolle ist. Keine Kontrolle über unsere Gedanken, keine Privatsphäre, keine eigene Entscheidungen. Ich würde soweit gehen und sagen dieses Buch ist eine Warnung. Sehr wichtiges Buch, muss jeder mal gelesen haben. Wir müssen selber denken können und alles hinterfragen, die Folgen des Gegenteils sind gefährlich -
