Legends & Lattes A Novel of High Fantasy and Low Stakes

Habe lange nicht mehr ein Buch an einem Abend beendet, weil es mir so sehr gefallen hat. Der Schreibstil ist nicht zu herausfordernd, die Geschichte ist sehr gut dargestellt, und ich hatte beim Lesen ein konstantes Lächeln im Gesicht. Besonders schön ist das niedrige Risiko der Geschichte, einfach mal entspannend :)

I really liked the idea of an orc quitting her career as a barbarian to open a coffee shop. I also enjoyed the variety of different (looking), interesting characters and the fact that the protagonist is a tall, strong warrior with fangs. And the cover is beautiful. Amazing artwork and definitely the main reason why I bought it. All vibes, no plot. That’s what I expected. A story so cozy and warm it would melt my soul into a cute little heart shaped form, put some glazed sugar on top and serve it with a freshly brewed cup of coffee. Unfortunately that’s not what happened. What I got instead, was a restless main character that had to build the entire place nearly from scratch, then had to hassle all the problems that came with opening your own coffee shop and when the customers finally did start pouring in, she had to work non-stop. And on top of all that we have some random villain who wants to destroy everything she’s built without a real motive. I don’t know – I guess this just wasn’t my kind of coziness. Too much going on and, apart from the characters, not enough fantasy. It wasn’t all bad and I did’t mind reading it. I just think this could have been way cozier.

Ein Buch, das man nur als "Cozy Fantasy" bezeichnen kann - für Leser:innen, die eine Pause von epischen Schlachten brauchen. Als D&D-Fan hat es viel Spaß gemacht und hatte genau das chaotische Feeling eines Coffee-Shop-Oneshots mit wunderbaren Charakteren und sehr viel Humor. Ein wunderbarer Zeitvertreib, wenn man über eine sehr einfache Handlung und mitunter zu schnell überwundene Hindernisse hinwegsieht!

This is a feelgood book without much plot. Basically something you want to read when you're feeling overwhelmed or just to read something. We follow our main character Viv who wants to open a coffee shop in a new town but nobody knows what coffee is. She buys this old horse stable to turn it into the coffee show and with the help of Cal and (idk what she is called) they build it from scratch. The author describes the introduction of cinnamon rolls, latte, croissaints etc. so it was a bit weird. Nothing was going on through the whole book and I honestly don't really care about this. Definitely recommend to others but for me it was boring. I expected some romance but we got an empty plate instead.

‘*‘ Meine Meinung ‘*‘ Nachdem ich so viel über dieses Buch gelesen hatte, musste ich es endlich von meinem SuB befreien. Zugegeben: Ich bin keine typische Cozy-Leserin, und Love-Romance gehört definitiv nicht zu meinen bevorzugten Genres. Doch nun verstehe ich die zahlreichen begeisterten Rezensionen – sie haben nicht übertrieben. Gleich zu Beginn lernte ich Viv kennen und begleitete sie bei ihrem Vorhaben, ein Kaffeehaus zu eröffnen. Schritt für Schritt traf ich auf die zentralen Figuren und fand mich immer besser in Thune und dieser liebevoll gezeichneten Welt zurecht. Ja, es ist wenig Action und das meiste ist recht vorhersehbar. Aber die eine oder andere Überraschung ließ mich nach Atem schnappen. Im Mittelpunkt stehen Freundschaft, Zusammenhalt und „chosen family“. Jede Figur bringt ihre eigenen Stärken ein, und gemeinsam bilden sie ein unschlagbares Team, das scheinbar Unmögliches möglich macht. Besonders schön fand ich, wie das Buch zeigt, dass der erste Eindruck trügen kann. Es lohnt sich, ein zweites Mal hinzusehen, zuzuhören und dem Elf ... ähm ... Succubus ... ähm ... Menschen eine echte Chance zu geben. Wir alle kennen unsere Coffee Shops. Doch mitzuerleben, wie in Thune der erste entsteht (inklusive der Erfindung von „Coffee to go“!), war einfach knuffig. Hach, ein heartwarming Buch, das ohne viel Love-Romance und Action auskommt, und mich dennoch total in seinen Bann gezogen hat. Ach ja, ich habe es auf Englisch gelesen und fand alles leicht verständlich. Klar gab es das eine oder andere Wort, dessen deutsche Bedeutung sich mir nicht explizit erschloss. Aber im Kontext war klar, worauf es abzielt. Von mir gibt es 5 Kaffee-Sterne und ich werde Coffee Shops von nun an mit anderen Augen sehen. ‘*‘ Klappentext ‘*‘ After decades of adventuring, Viv the orc barbarian is finally hanging up her sword for good. Sehr zum Unwillen ihrer Gefährten beschließt sie, das Schwert an den Nagel zu hängen – und dafür ein Kaffeehaus zu eröffnen. In der Hafenstadt Thune setzt sie zusammen mit dem Kobold Cal ihren Plan in die Tat um und lockt mit dem exquisiten Getränk schon bald Krieger, Zwerge und Wesen jeglicher Art an ... und leider auch den bösen Elf Fennus, der von Viv ein geheimnisvolles Artefakt stehlen will. Aber auch wenn Viv sich mittlerweile in die Succubus Tandri verliebt hat, ist sie alles andere als eingerostet und nimmt den Kampf auf!
