10 Things That Never Happened

Das Buch war sehr lustig und unterhaltsam, und hat mich mehrmals zum Lachen gebracht. Eine tolle leichte Lektüre, die ich allen empfehlen würde. Die Themen Familie und Freundschaft sind hier zentral, was das ganze Buch auch mit ganz viel Liebe füllt.

I read this book from cover to cover in one day. I can't quite put my finger on it, but the mixture of humour and earnestness, relationship developments and just simply an abundance of personality in this book reeled me in and didn't let me go. There were so many hilarious moments where I laughed out loud, tender moments (in that sort of guy way) that melted my heart a little, and ridiculous situations where I'd normally cringe and put the book down, but couldn't with this one. The amnesia situation shouldn't have worked. It shouldn't have. But it did. Sam is a fantastic MC to get to know and spend some time in his head. I was actually sad to finish the book and let him go. He's not a “good guy” by any means, he has his flaws and sort of works on them but kind of keeps them, which makes him very interesting. I love that as soon as he's introduced with being named after a LOTR character, it keeps popping up here and there throughout the story and is neither forgotten halfway through nor overused (which I very much appreciated). Jonathan is a dick. But he's a dick with a heart. He even gets chosen by Gollum to be the Designated Cat Cushion, and petter, and overall his go-to human. The relationship between Jonathan and Sam's cat is a joy to witness. And most importantly, let's not forget the queen, Agnieszka, Jonathan's housekeeper, who I hope gets her own book/story someday.

I always like to say one thing about RomComs: „You know it’s a good one, when you can’t tell if the characters are flirting or insulting each other“ & I have to admit, Alexis Halls typical, delightful and sarcastic, british humor and the couple dynamics he creates are getting me everytime! „10 things that never happened“ is a queer, christmassy romcom about an employee which (inadvertently) fakes amnesia to his boss, a cat betraying his owner and a mega grump who falls in love with an, like he says, „annoying ray of sunshine“. You can also look forward to an EXTREMELY chaotic but loving family trying to organise Christmas. I think it’s remarkable, that with all this, Jonathan and Sams story still made me feel all warm and fuzzy. As a Fan, I really enjoyed the geeky Lord of the Rings allusions, the humor in this one was splendid! Watching Sam getting more and more entangled in the chaos of his own lies was hilarious at times. I was always wondering if this chapter is the chapter where he gets caught and from chapter to chapter, the idea of him getting caught terrified me even more, because I was liking them and their progress in their relationship so much. They were both lovely and I can proudly add Sam to my Top 3 of „Alexis Halls Male Leads“ (of course, the iconic Mister A. A. Winters from „Glitterland“ is still my number one)
