Kind of good, kind of predictable

Nicol aus Wien am 14.10.2023

Bewertungsnummer: 2043654

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

While the story did have its moments of predictability, it managed to throw in unexpected twists that left me questioning my assumptions. The pacing of the narrative was quick and smooth, making it a fast and easy read. However, despite the book's enjoyable aspects, I must admit that I wasn't entirely blown away by it. While it had its moments of excitement and suspense, there were also instances where I felt the story lacked a deeper impact or emotional resonance.

What a brilliantly twisted horror story! Immersive, spine-tingeling gothic vibes - a masterclass in creating an eerie setting. Set in 1983, the story centers around Lenora Hope, a woman accused of killing her whole family - or did she? As the story unravels, you'll find your head spinning from all the insane twists and secrets all the main characters hid all these years. Find out yourself!

Twist after twist after twist after twist!

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

I had a feeling this story was gonna be a wild ride but MY GOD was I underestimating it! Sager kept you guessing and surprising until the very end. A refreshing, bright main character, multiple, complex side characters and the unique dynamics between all of them, combined with the chilling extracts of the typewritten truth of what happened the night of the murders, makes for a highly addictive read. Five stars!

Sager At His Best!

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

With Riley Sager, you always know what you'll get! If you are looking for a fast-paced psychological thriller that leaves you creeped out at night to turn off the light, then Riley Sager is for sure the author to turn to. In his latest thriller, we accompany caregiver/nurse Kit McDeere in her new employment to care for Lenora Hope, who is believed - but never convicted - to have killed her parents and sister Virgina in a family tragedy 50 years ago. As Lenora's huge family estate (called Hope's End) is situated at the very secluded coastline of her home town, Kit is more or less separated from the outside world and has to make sense of the strange happenings on Hope's End all by herself. Teeming with spine-chilling suspense, Sager freezes his audience with every single word he writes and does not hold back with a huge bunch of mind-blowing plot twists near the end of the book. I wanted to be entertained and my goodness - have I not been entertained indeed!
