I am sure the author has a lot of important things to say, especially about very real topics like the consequences of blind faith. But I had a hard time to figure out the actual plot. While I love having different POVs in a story, the sudden interchanging of them within a couple sentences confused me sometimes. It was interesting to not have a single main character whom we follow but multiple, but I didn't really like any of the characters we did learn about. Which might be the point of it all, I suppose. All in all, while this book wasn't exactly my taste, I have to admit I was fascinated by the dry/simple writing style and Moshfeg's talent for telling the reader about all those horrible gruesome things and still making them turn page after page to learn more.

    How to Sell a Haunted House

    This book was a random find but MY LORD, has it changed my expectations about what I want, nay, NEED a good horror novel to be like! It simply checked all the boxes of things that I love getting creeped out by. The characters are imperfect, authentic and much more layered than they first let on. And the writing style? Superb! Comedic and clever, but chillingly horrifying when it needs to be. It just hit all the right nerves for me. And just like that, Grady Hendrix has written himself into my horror loving heart. You adore a good haunted house story? You hate creepy puppets and dolls? You are intruiged by family secrets that plunge whole generations into deep trauma and have to be dug up by the main character in order to rid herself of the powerful force posessing her childhood home? Look no further and go GRAB THIS BOOK! Right now! :)

    The House in the Cerulean Sea

    This has been one of my absolute highlights for the last year. The story has everything I was looking for:. Urban fantasy setting? Check. Relatable main character? Check. Lovable, quirky side characters? Check. Representation of diversity of all kinds? Check! Everyone in this story is so unique and flawed and wholesome, I couldn't help myself but fall in love with them. Which is all thanks to the beautiful writing style of TJ Klune. It was only the first of his books that I have read, but I already count Klune to my favourit authros!

    The Only One Left

    I had a feeling this story was gonna be a wild ride but MY GOD was I underestimating it! Sager kept you guessing and surprising until the very end. A refreshing, bright main character, multiple, complex side characters and the unique dynamics between all of them, combined with the chilling extracts of the typewritten truth of what happened the night of the murders, makes for a highly addictive read. Five stars!

    Long Live Evil

    I genuinely, unexpectedly loved this story! The characters are awesome, their dynamics insanely entertaining and unique, the worldbuilding feels very rich -- and this ending?? I need more, immediately. Did I sometimes cringe a little about the unserious pop culture references / modern slang used in the main character's language? Yes. Did I still find myself not wanting to stop reading? Absolutely. Can't wait for the second book to come out. This has the potential to become a new personal favourit series!

    Wow! I am blown away. I honestly couldn't put this book down and when I had to, I couldn't wait to pick it back up again. Such a clever, provocative, thrilling story about racism, plagiarism and cultural appropriation in the book industry/social media - written in the POV of the villain who views herself as both the hero and the victim of her own reckless actions. It almost felt like a dark, twisted cautioniary tale à la "Jekyll and Hyde" or "Dorian Gray" but set in a very real, modern society. It's the first book by Kuang that I've read, and it definitely will not be the last!

    Als sie sich noch nicht kannten

    Gabriel Gerling hat in diesen sechs Geschichten ganz wunderbar sechs verschiedene Perspektiven zu Weihnachten authentisch und humorvoll mit Schleife verpackt und uns unter den Baum gelegt. So sehr man sich selbst und seine Familie in manchen davon wiedererkennen kann, so wird einem doch auch bewusst, wie vielfältig das Weihnachtsfest eigentlich sein kann. Wie bedeutend und auch nebensächlich. Und trotzdem steckt in jeder einzelnen Erzählung mehr als nur ein Funken Wahrheit, sondern auch Trost und ganz viel Herz. Ein tolles Geschenk, und das nicht nur an Heiligabend. Und da "Als sie sich noch nicht kannten" gerade mal der Auftakt zu Gerlings Trilogie "Sex und Sozialkririk" ist, kann man sich auf noch einiges mehr schöner Worte aus seiner Feder freuen!

    It's like Mulan was thrown into the Hunger Games. But angrier. And they're defeating a destructive alien species instead of the Huns. And there is a bunch of interesting rituals, facts and legends from all across the different Asian cultures. And, did I mention? A love triangle. No. No, no. You don't understand. A Love TRIANGLE. A proper one! AKA actual polyamorous/bisexual representation. A really genius, mindblowing read. This will probably turn into a 2025 fantasy highlight for me.

    Experienced. Die Liebe bietet unbegrenzte Möglichkeiten

    Eine wirklich schöne, humorvolle und aktuelle Geschichte über das sich Verlieben, Ausprobieren und Wohlfühlen in der neu entdeckten Sexualität. Ließ sich sehr flüssig lesen und mich noch lange nach dem Ende viel über die Charaktere und deren verschiedene Situationen nachdenken. Perfekt für Menschen, die sich selbst gerade erst in ihrer Sexualität zurechtfinden und/oder mehr darüber lernen wollen, ohne direkt "belehrt" zu werden.

    Die 13 1/2 Leben des Käpt'n Blaubär

    Käpt'n Blaubär ist eine Figur, die die Kindheit von sehr vielen Leuten geprägt hat. Ich selbst kannte ihn damals nur durch die Serie, aber habe schon oft von Moers Büchern gehört - verbunden mit nichts als Bewunderung und Schwärmereien. Es wurde also endlich mal Zeit, in das Zamonien-Universum einzutauchen, und "Die 13 ½ Leben des Käpt'n Blaubär" ist der ideale Anfang dafür. Und wieso habe ich das nicht schon früher getan?! Der wortgewandte Schreibstil, das tiefgründige Worldbuilding, die vielfältigen Charaktere... und der beeindruckende Einfallsreichtum bei all dem! Das einfache Adjektiv "kreativ" ist eine glatte Untertreibung. Ich bin ganz hin und weg! Für einen Fantasy-Fan, der sich nach langer Flaute nach einer neuen epischen Welt voller verrückter, magischer, witziger und erstaunlicher Wesen und Orte sehnt, ist bei Walter Moers bestens aufgehoben. Ich freue mich schon darauf, nach und nach ganz Zamonien zu erkunden!

    The Wild Robot

    I cannot put into how just how much I loved this book. Apart from the beautiful illustrations, all of which were created by the author himself, the characters and the writing style were simply amazing. The wonderfully charming nature of Roz' personality, a curious creature who is ready to help and learn how to do it properly, moved me to the verge of tears multiple times during my reading session. Also the many side characters who learn to not be scared of someone so different from them for no other reason except their being different were truly tugging on my heart strings. The story conveys many very important life lessons, all wrapped up in a lovely adventure that will captivate children and grownups alike.
