One day Abbeys life kind of falls apart. She thought her longterm boyfriend was going to propose to her but instead he dumped her for somebody else. And to make things worse she also lost her job on the very next day. In order to get her life back together she uses most of her wedding fund to rent an apartment in the building she always wanted to live in. When she gets home one night she bumps in no other than her ex whose new girlfriends seems to live right next door. So Abbey couldn’t be more happy when her annoying upstairs neighbor decides to be her pretend boyfriend. But then her mom decides to invite her ex to her parents vow renewal and Abbey knows that under no circumstance could she show up without a plus-one. Who could be a better fit than her hot neighbor who has saved her before? I must say I am a huge fan of the „Fake Dating“ trope and so I was super excited to read this book. In general I think that this book was an easy read and I really enjoyed the style of writing. Abbey and Ted both seem like nice and sweet characters who have a lot in common. In my opinion their similarities might have been a bit too much. Both pretend to live a different life, have a cheating ex and are close to their family. Especially the cheating ex who both wanted to get back together made it seem like everything happened almost twice. While they both pretended a lot to be someone else I actually enjoyed their true personality the most. Maybe it is because I am a big tech and numbers nerd myself but I think it was also Abbeys sweet personality and the growth you could see in her confidence. However I did not like the whole lying part and how long they let it go on. There would have been plenty of chances to tell each other the truth and both missed out on then. That’s something I don’t really enjoy reading because I tend to get annoyed with the characters a lot. Also I thought that at first their love was really slow burning and then towards the end of the story it felt almost rushed and I would have enjoyed a bit more details. I would have been great if this would have been more balanced out over the timeline of the book. Altogether I would consider this a sweet love story with a bit much lying going on and an unbalanced pace of their relationship. Nevertheless I would give this book 3.5 stars and recommend it to everyone looking for an easy read with mostly relatable characters.

Fake Dating Geschichten gefallen mir eigentlich immer, daher bin ich auch sehr motiviert in diese Geschichte gestartet. Und ich wurde nicht enttäuscht. Der Schreibstil (im Englischen) ist sehr flüssig und ich konnte mich richtig schön in die Geschichte fallen lassen. Abbey fand ich von Beginn an wirklich sympathisch und auch Ted mochte ich direkt wirklich gerne. Die Gefühlswelt der einzelnen Charaktere konnte mich dann besonders zu Beginn der Geschichte auch überzeugen. Die Handlungen und die Wirrungen, die sich aus einigen Situationen und Entscheidungen beider Seiten, dann entwickelt haben, haben mich mit der Zeit dann etwas weniger überzeugen können. Für mich wurde es dann etwas zu konfus und etwas zu konstruiert. Dadurch wirkte die Handlung für mich am Ende dann doch etwas gezwungen und zu sehr gewollt. Besonders schade fand ich, dass ich die aufkommenden Gefühle und später auch das Prickeln zwischen den Charakteren nicht so wirklich gespürt habe. Insgesamt eine unterhaltsame Geschichte, die mich gut unterhalten hat. Für mich fehlte aber dann doch etwas das Prickeln beim Lesen, um ein wirklich gelungenes Romance Buch zu sein.
