Fallen Gods

I didn't believe that there would be a book I'd dislike as much as "Blood of Hercules" but here we are. First of all: the idea of using a norse mythology for a fanatsy book is absolutely great. Big fan. But what Rachel van Dyken did with it was a catastrophe. While the underlying baseline story might even be good everything else wasn't. The character's were really flat (really would not have cared if any or all of them suddenly died), the conversations sound like either Chat GPT or a child has written them and so many things that happen don't make any kind of sense. Like, what do you mean he bites her and draws blood (and likes it) but not only did she seem to forget that like 3 seconds after when they're engaged in another meaningless dialogue (after another randomly placed makeout session) but it NEVER comes up again? There is no tension, no emotion and no hint of good writing whatsoever. The only thing I did not find completely excruciating to read was the ending. The ending was the only time I thought: "hmm, seems like the author thought that through". This idea had so freaking much potential and sadly it was all wasted.
