a fancy book about fancy books

Bewertung am 27.09.2024

Bewertungsnummer: 2302874

Bewertet: Buch (Taschenbuch)

This book is a treat for every booklover! Why? Because it's a book about books! Magical books, to be precise, which give their carrier special powers. With our female lead, we experience the ecstasy of these powers as well as the brutality of them. 'The Book of Doors' is an extraordinary urban-fantasy-read with bloody descriptions and, at the same time, tender and magical wording.

The title got my attention first, but I wondered about the connection between doors and books, and the author’s intention. Every book holds something magical between its pages, an adventure for the reader to discover. And the Book of Doors reveals its magic right from the start. Who wouldn’t want such a book with so many possibilities, despite the dangers it may put you into? The author has achieved an amazing debut, one I didn’t know before but certainly one to follow in the future. Everyone who loves books should read the Book of Doors, an amazingly written page-turner. The over 400 pages fly by in no time, it’s so addictive. This story covers more than just one genre, all in one book a joy for every reader, a nicely plotted magical adventure. I can’t wait to read the next one from Gareth Brown

Magical books and a secret library? Yes, please

Bewertet: eBook (ePUB)

When Cassie unexpectedly gets her hands on the magical Book of Doors, no door is closed for her anymore—not always in a good way though. Soon she finds herself hunted by all sorts of dangerous people but luckily also in the company of new friends. And then the shenanigans begin. While the writing style itself felt a little bit repetitive and superficial on rare occasions, the development of the story kept surprising me. The special books as the central part are a well-executed, creative idea and I enjoyed seeing how different characters handled all the possibilities of using them. The characters were likable, some adorable even, and the way they formed relationships with each other was nice to follow as well, even though sometimes it felt a bit too constructed. Overall I had a good time reading The Book of Doors.
