A deeply enjoyable romance with lovable characters

Break Me is, above all, a beautifully written love story. Set against the backdrop of the elite equestrian world, it combines romance, family dynamics, and emotional healing with an engaging cast of characters that immediately made me want to continue the series. Hallie and Jasper are wonderfully developed protagonists. Their chemistry feels natural, the emotional tension between them is beautifully sustained, and the spice complements their relationship rather than defining it. I also adored the horses and the supporting characters, all of whom give the story warmth and leave you eager to discover their own journeys in the following books. From a psychological perspective, however, there were a few aspects that kept this from becoming a five-star read for me. The first is highly subjective. I personally struggle with romances in which the MMC appears emotionally defeated during the protagonists' very first encounter. Jasper evolves into a confident, protective, and compelling hero throughout the novel, but that initial impression stayed with me longer than I expected. Secondly, I found the portrayal of the competitive horse world somewhat idealized. The Knighton family seems to succeed almost effortlessly, and the equestrian setting occasionally felt more romanticized than authentic. Likewise, the portrayal of the horses as almost exclusively perfect family members leaned a little too far into sentimentality for my personal taste. Finally, while Break Me is certainly an eye-catching title, I never truly felt that the story revolved around the idea of someone being "broken." The title promises a central emotional theme that, for me, the novel ultimately explores in a different way. That said, these are very personal observations and may not affect other readers at all. Overall, this remains a deeply enjoyable romance with lovable characters, an immersive setting, beautiful writing, and a heartbreaking cliffhanger that immediately convinced me to pick up book two.
